More then what I expected! I recently purchase this GPS about a week ago. I am an Astronomer and I use it to find precise locations (LAT/LONG) so I can find objects in the sky. I love it! its small and very portable. I carry it in my pocket, travel with it in my vehicle and do long trips with it. Its great when I go fishing and bike riding too. I can mark my exact location so I can come back to it later. The faults that I find are that the default maps that come with it, is not all that great. Its just the basic highway...

No power cable included! I've just started using this Garmin Legend. It seems to work about as well as I expected. It doesn't have built in maps with as high a detail as I wanted. The really bad part is that the "data cable" provided is just that - a data cable. You can't hook the thing to an external power source. Garmin sells such a cable on their web page for $50, which is *way* too much. Guess I'll have to hack the cable they supplied (sigh).

Great gadget I bought one of these for my old man (to replace a dead first-generation GPS unit). It is wonderful! He does a lot of motorcycling, and the maps go down to the county highway level which is good enough for him. About the size of a cell phone and it's watertight. Higher detail maps are available for purchase but I think they are useless (GPS doesn't work that great downtown, and I'm not going to drive and play with a GPS at the same time anyway). A few minor cons: no power cable, not the mos...

Great price/performance I could not be more happy with my purchase of the Legend. It provides a great deal of features packed into a very small form factor. Screen is very clear and bright. The backlight is great and effects battery life in a very reasonable way. A very popular model so there is lots of community support and accessories available. 8 MB of memory is sufficient for every mapping program available. Very reliable thus far, I only lose signal under pretty dense foilage conditions. Perfect consumer good!

My Boyfriend LOVES it i just bought this GPS for my boyfriend and he LOVES it! He loves his new "toy" and sometimes im sorry i got it for him when he informs me of the sunrise and sunset time of the particular area we are driving through about ever 20 minutes! But i must say it is very cool; even i figured it out by myself. The maps that are already in it arent that detailed but they serve their purpose well. and of course, being water proof is a plus because he has been known to drop MANY things in the lak...

. Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Great.........I use it for fishing and to record how far I've walked, etc. I now can tell how fast my son is driving.
Cons: I don't have a serial port on my laptop and haven't been able to find a way to load the maps.

Reliable Tech Level: high Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: I use this any time and every time I am hiking and it gets this directionally challenged person home every time. Use it fishing the great lakes for fun and the saved waypoints are as accurate and repeatable as the $800 GPS we have on the boat. Respectable battery life
Cons: Limited capability but for the price it and what I bought it for it serves me wonderfully.

Reliable Tech Level: average Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Very reliable, especially compared with other GPS units I've used. I generally use it for hiking and geocaching and the waypoints are easy to input. It is very accurate and the 'current location' doesn't fluctuate much like others do
Cons: the battery life with the backlight on is very short. I wish it had more memory, but it holds plenty of waypoints- just not enough ...

Great for the application Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: This is the second one I've owned. Great newegg price, great shipping. I use it for geocaching, backpacking, and teaching navagation to Venturing Crews at Laguna Station High Adventure Sea Base in Texas.
Cons: Serial connection is outdated. There are many more features in other units, but this one has the features I use the most. [Garmin eTrex Legend review by N/A can be read at Newegg.com] | | Newegg.com Rating: 8.0 |
