Canon XTi w/lens Tech Level: somewhat high

Pros: Great entry level SLR. This is my first DSLR (used film SLR's for many years). It is easy to use and very fast. Gone are the days of pressing the shutter and hoping the camera will take the photo before the pose is lost. I'm a Canon fan, and was not let down I have owned 3 Canons and have always been very impressed with the features and usability.
This camera is no different.
I've upgraded from the ELPH S500 series (a point-and-shoot) because I felt that I'd learned all I needed to with simpler cameras. I purchased this camera because of the positive reviews (like this one) talking about the wonders of the features.

Best Entry Level SLR on the Market Tech Level: high

Pros: For the money you can beat it. The Nikon is $200 more and has a few extra useless features the Canon doesnt. The Canon out performs the Nikon in most areas, has lower noise, etc. Also, contrary to another review, it does have RAW. That guy just didnt know where to find it. Most people arent pros so there isn't anything this camera wont be able to do for them.

Anti-dust features not that effective Dust on the image sensor is a problem inherent to all DSLR cameras. Whenever the mirror box is exposed to the environment, dust can (and will) get in and get statically attracted to the image sensor. Canon, with the ultrasonic dust cleaning feature and the image-degrading dust delete and detection software, seems in principle to have solidly addressed the problem. Unfortunately, this does not impress in practice.

Pros: Super camera. The color saturation on most of the images is out of this world, especially if you take the pictures with the sun to your back. The zoom range of the 18-55mm lens is perfect for almost everything. It goes from a wide angle to good telephoto and there is no noticable change of image quality on either end. Pros: The camera is very easy to learn how to use. It has a very high shooting rate and excelent image quality for what you pay. I highly recomend this camera to anyone looking to get into the SLR area of photography.
Cons: Doesn't come with a lens hood. But that's no big deal, a lot of cameras do not.

What's Amatuer? I keep seeing reviews about this being the best camera for the AMATUER. The pros at national newspapers and magazines were using this level camera three years ago. Moving up to the 5D won't make you a better photographer. I've sold plenty of photos with this camera. I sold plenty of photos with an old 3.1 megapix Olympus I had as my first digital camera.
Really don't worry so much about the camera. Buy some good lenses, take a class, learn to work with subjects, look at the light.....

DUST DUST DUST Although I love many things about this camera, I must share one major concern with anyone thinking about purchasing this camera: Dust. I bouhgt my camera kit 3 months ago, with a wonderful 50mm 1.8 lens. From switching back and forth between lenses, dust has landed on the COMS sensor, and the sonic dust removal system does nothing to remove it.
