Better than wireless

Tech Level: high
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg.com

Pros: Easy setup. Decent performance. Does the job well enough so that I can copy data between two or more PC's via the powerline adapters. The 4-port switch feature is great. I used this capability to hook up an existing wired print server which saved me big $$$.

Cons: The photos are misleading. They make it look like you get two XE104 units ...

Despite negative reviews

I have to say I'm very pleased with the product. I have two units connected on 2 different circuits and the performance is great- 50-60Mbps.
My building does have new electric wiring so perhaps it helps too.

The heat issue doesn't exist- the units feel barely lukewarm to the touch. And the 4-port switch is sweet- no extra power supplies, no wires. Great design indeed !

My only complain is that software is a bit flaky, seems to freeze and I couldn't change the pas...

Does what it says on the box!

This product is fantastic. Beats the pants off wireless for connecting my Media Center PC that is attached to my TV to the router. The main difference between this and wireless is the quality of the connection. In my house, it is rock solid, just like ethernet.

I havent done extreme tests on throughput, but now I can stream video from my Media Center PC to my other computer that is connected wirelessly. I was never able to do this before when they were both wireless.

NETGEAR 85 Mbps wall-plug ethernet kit

As close to "plug" and play as you can get! No muss, no fuss, works great! I am using multiple PCs on this system without any problems.

Performance seems to be based on current electric load and distance to base unit

The first one of these that we bought acted like it connected, but we could never get an IP address at the remote location. Set passwords, etc, to no avail - netgear support incorrectly told me, (to finally get me off the phone no doubt), that the reason it was failing was because the kit contains an XE104 and an XE103 and that maybe they can't talk to each other - this is completely get-the-customer-off-the-line bogus information.

We returned the first one and bought another one to ...

Best E-Net Extenter

Received the unit. Plugged it in. Acts just like a wired connection. Fastest connection I've had to my PC about 100ft away from my router... Great Product

More stable than wireless

Tech Level: somewhat high
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Does not crash my router when making large multi-thread downloads over the internet.

Cons: Doesn't approach speed, rating, is equal to wireless with strong signal. Software, even the latest version downloaded, doesn't work with Vista Ultimate.

Other Thoughts: I had to try several receptacles to get a strong signal.

Just Works!

We used several of these to wire up Cisco IP phones in our office with zero problems. The builtin encryption (note, you'll need a Windows PC to set the password though any IP device will work after that) means we are happy using the devices on the shared wiring in our office building.

They worked so well I'm buying more for home! Recommended.

aahhhhhh! the solution to unreliable wireless

We've had interference with our wireless network for well over a year. We have only one laptop on wireless, and it doesn't move around, so the real reason for using wireless was to save routing more ethernet wire through the house. The internal wireless card has poor reception, but even a plug-in Wireless 802.11g PC Card from Netgear was getting knocked off many times a day not just by one our 2.4gig phones, but also, apparently, by our neighbors' phones.

This product, the xe104g,...

Great Stuff!

These items work out of the box, don't get hot at all and provide 100 mbps speed in my case. Definetly recommend it!
