Nice Fast switch I plugged it in and it worked mostly. I was replacing a smaller gigabit switch with this one. I had problems getting some computers that had 1Gb cards to talk to the switch, or only talk intermittently. I addressed the problem by switching old cables with new ones and the problem went away. The old cables work fine on connections to computers that only support 100Mb cards, and the old switch did not complain about the cables, I'm disappointed that the switch did not work at 100Mb with the old... Performed as Promised This is a boring category - especially for a small business with only moderate networking requirements.
I needed a short depth form factor to fit into a rack mount system. This device fit.
I wanted 1 GBPS to maximize desktop to NAS backup. This unit delivered. I can max out the link using Norton Ghost to DLink NAS from my Dell desktop. There was no performance degradation from adding 100MB and 10MB devices to the switch (there isn't a lot of traffic on the network)... Great value and high performance Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Great value Good performance Comes with all H/W Netgear quality
Cons: DEFINITELY HAS A FAN! Slightly noisy, but not bad Power cord too tight to wall Straight power cord tight squeeze
Other Thoughts: This switch definitely has a fan and is just slightly noisy. I have it in a home wiring closet, so not a big issue. Mounted to wall with standard 19" wall-mount rack... [Read SMR's Complete Review for Netgear 16PT GIGABIT ETHERNET SWITCH (JGS516NA) at Newegg.com] |

Great switch Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Works as advertised right out of the box. I am using this as a central switch for my server node.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Intitially I was concerned that it would not mount into a 19 inch rack because the dimensions list it as 13 inches wide. However, the rack mounts extend the width of the switch to 19 ... [Read Jarhead_1899's Complete Review for Netgear 16PT GIGABIT ETHERNET SWITCH (JGS516NA) at Newegg.com] |
