Zyxel 401A Homeplug -

great option when ethernet connection is needed and wireless isn't a possibility. Two are needed for completing connection. One at cable modem and the other in any electrical outlet you need it to be in.

Not Usable For High Definition Streaming

I purchased this item to get a wired connection to stream high definition material without having to wire my house with CAT-5 cable. Well, this is fine for general internet surfing, but not for video streaming. I attempted to stream a Blu-Ray video from a movie server in my basement to the bedroom and it was like watching a slide show.

I rated it 4 stars only because it does do what it advertises, that is to create an internet connection through powerlines. However, i was a bit dis...

Too Easy

There was one room in my house that the wi-fi signal wouldn't reach. The Zyxel Homeplug AV adapters eliminated that problem quickly. It's based on powerline networking so it uses the electrical wires already in the home to setup a netork. Based on my previous experience installing a D-link wireless network I was prepared to spend at least an hour to install the Zyxel powerline adapters, but it took less than 10 minutes. The setup was so easy I kept thinking I was overlooking something; I wasn't-...

Solved a major problem

Product is plug-and-play.

I have a cabana in the back not connected to my house where my home office is located. I have a wireless N network that has weak to no coverage in the cabana. I added this product to my network (took about 2 minutes to install) and the product worked out-of-the-box.

I would buy this product again without thinking twice.

works great

I am using this with my zyxel media player and it works great. No problems.Easy to set up and easy to understand. I was skeptical that this would work like it says, but suprisingly it does.Wish it were a little cheaper though.

works as advertised, good device

Tech Level: high
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg.com

Pros: It just works. Plug it in, and it works.

Cons: Requires .net 1.1, which is very old now. It'd be reasonable to be using 2.0. The device itself is pretty fat. Takes up a lot of space on a surge protector, if you can get it to work on a surge protector. I have four of these, two are deployed, and the connection is sporadic if one devic...

A bit strange to set up

Tech Level: somewhat high
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg.com

Pros: Throughput seems pretty good, once you get it working that is.

Cons: Had to RMA one of two that I purchased, as it wouldn't play well out of the box. I'm not sure these were working well until I changed to a private network ID, which is a bit of a PITA if you don't do it from the NBG318S router end, which only requires access fr...

Tech Level: high
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg.com

Pros: Works.

Cons: The software it comes with requires .net. Depending on your network setup, your needs, and where you live you probably won't need this software. One of the LEDs died. In test I saw 15Mbit/s with a relatively high latency.

Other Thoughts: It works well enough for what I need.

just works

Tech Level: somewhat high
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg.com

Pros: Works as soon as I plugged them in (bought 2). No more dead spots in the house. Very convenient. Have to try it with ZyXEL Powerline router (i'm on wrt54gs) to see if I can get higher speed

Cons: non so far. Maybe make it smaller?

Good Service

Had to buy this unit to make up a pair. Purchased as a kit of 2 from an other supplier and received only one. Found the price a little high but the service was good.
