not backward compatible with homeplug 1.0 Don't buy it if you plan to use it with PLA-100 or other homeplug 1.0 adapters. They don't communicate. I wanted to add this to my existing powerline network of PLA-100 but it does not work and I had to return it. A waste of time and money. Zyxel should have made clear that the so-called homeplug AV is not backward compatible.

May require firmware upgrade It's true that HomePlug AV nodes cannot intercommunicate with HomePlug 1.0 nodes. ZyXEL and most, if not all, other HomePlug AV hardware manufacturers are derelict in not pointing out that fact. As an engineer who works with HomePlug almost full-time, I know that AV kicks 1.0's tail in terms of bitrate versus SNR. That doesn't excuse ZyXEL's dereliction, but it gives you cause to ponder retiring your HomePlug 1.0 hardware and replacing it with HomePlug AV hardware. Even if you think you won't be...

I made the right choice! I bought this unit device because I needed more than one Ethernet port. And I found out that I made the right choice. This power line switch not just only connects my computer to the router within high speed, d. It also provides sharing for more than one computers computer on the power line. A few extra dollars actually goes a long way

Cool product Very good value.Previously, I bought a pair of powerline adapters to connect the routers and one computer and found they are easy to install and connected at good speed. I bought the PLA470 for my home office where I can connect my computer, Internet telephone box, printer and network storage all together to share the powerline network. This product provides very good value to me.

Works Great Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I paired this with a PLA-400. Both needed firmware upgrades to see each other, but after I did that they run very very well. The switch gets no hotter than a normal switch. The PLA-400 gets very very hot. 200 won't happen, I get about 80mbs, and thats on the very same circuit run.
Cons: I am using these on the very same circuit run, ...

Much faster than expected! Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Extremely FAST (145 Mbps receive, 136 Mbps transmit). No dropouts, lost packets, etc. Far more robust than wireless.
Cons: How do I know my TX/RX speeds? I had to install the built-in utililty to configure the ZyXel PLA-470 it to work with three ZyXel PLA-400 adapters I also bought. The 400s wouldn't connect to the 470...

Very nice Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Plug it in, and it works. Fast, even with old wiring at opposite ends of the house. The 4 ports is plenty of room to support my entertainment center.
Cons: I paired this with a PLA-400, and that device needed a firmware update before the boxes would find each other. Once that was done, though, they worked remarkably well.

Solved my problem Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Easy to install. Fast. Attractive. Avoided need for additional switch at the remote location. Paired this with a pair of PLA400s which arrived separately and earlier than the PLA470. I get about 100 to 120 MB/s, which I consider good - the 200 Mb/s "rating" is a theoretical maximum and is not to be expected in the real world. See other reviews&...
