Very good navigation with some caveats I have been using this one for only 2 days, but having used previous GPS (Garmin Nuvi 350, Mio C310x and Magellan 4050), I can say my navigation experience has been very good so far.
I agree with other reviewers that even without text-to-speech, the voice directions in combination with looking at the map will work just fine. My first trip today went smoothly with the following caveats:

great product This is my first car GPS and I don't know who would need more and why. This product does everything I need and the size is perfect - it fits in my jacket pockets easily.
Only one little drawback is that on long trips I can't tell it to use certain roads to use to get to a destination. Of course you still have options to choose a fastest route, shortest etc, but it doesn't solve the "problem". Almost Perfect Its been a month since I had The TOMTOM and it works great. I used it a day after I received it for a 3 day outing. It took me exactly where I wanted to go without any problems. The real clincher is when we used it at night during a rainstorm and we arrived at our destination with no problem. My 1st GPS, very easy to use I am a GPS newbie, I have used Hertz Neverlost but never owned a GPS, before. I bought this TomTom for occasional use on trips/vacations. It was a real help on a recent trip to New Mexico, and always seemed to be able to get a fix and provide good, timely vocal directions so that 95% of the time I didn't need to refer to the screen. Great Value for the Price If you want to get from point A to B this is the GPS unit to go with, as you can not get a better unit for the price. Unit is packed with special features. You do not even need to read the manual to get the TomTom One 3rd Edition up and fully functioning. This unit finds the satalites almost immediately. Good value for money I bought TomTom One Third Edition in online deal on Black Friday sale from one of the websites for just $105 (after getting $20 gift card). For that value I am extremely satisfied with the product. It's been couple of days since I got it but so far I am very happy.

TomTom suffers from poor engineering, clumsy POI selection I bought my TomTom from Amazon for $125 on Black Friday. As a result, I really tried to appreciate the GPS for its great value. Unfortunately, despite the bargain pricing, I decided to return it to Amazon.
TomTom uses Tele Atlas maps, which are less accurate/comprehensive than Magellan and Garmin's NAVTEQ (let's just say there's a reason why Google Maps chose NAVTEQ over Tele Atlas). TomTom's routing software is poor. It has taken me on the most bizarre routes for the simplest trips...

Superb Device for the Money (and a case tip) a tech friend of mine once said, "a car without a GPS is like a cell phone without an address book." he's a pretty smart guy, so when i bought a new car i thought i'd just order in a factory GPS -- then i saw that would be another $750. so after a little research, i bought the tomtom one 3rd edition here on amazon during their black friday sale in 2007.

Tom Tom One vs Magellan and Text to Speech I replaced a Magellan 4040 with this. The Magellan had text to speech - wide screen - blue tooth and AAA guides. Cost much more.
In my opinion the inexpensive Tom Tom beats the Magellan hands down, even without text to speech.
