A lession learned

When my 6GB iPod mini broke, i thought to myself that this was my excuse to upgrade to the latest and greatest iPod (160 GB). My old one worked great, and all my friends got either the 30GB or 80GB Gen 5.5 iPods and loved them as well. So, I figured it was a pretty safe purchase since Apple had established the iPod as a stable/ dependable product...

Well, i get the 160GB ipod in the mail(from Apple's website) and hook it up to my computer (XP SP2) and attempt to sync it and iTune...

Don't rush to upgrade

I received my iPod classic as a gift. This is my 5th iPod and I had high hopes. After a few days my reaction is mixed.

Sound Quality
-) My 60 GB iPod with Video had much better sound quality than this version. I listened to both with my Bose QC-3 headphones, a pair of Bose earbuds and a pair of regular earbuds. I had someone hold the iPods out of sight so I coudln't tell which I was listening to during my "blind" test. The sound quality on the new iPod Classic is a bit mu...

iPod Classic Review

The iPod Classic is a mobile music player. The objective of the iPod is to offer reasonable sound and video at a reasonable price. That said, Apple has taken steps to make as many features available as possible while still keeping the price-point low. Many negative reviews are from techs who look at the new iPod Classic and see an inferior audio chip and a few other things compared to previous versions. This is true, but ask how many of the techs actually used the chips to the fullest capacity a...

Better than my 30 gig gen 5 video iPod

I've owned and loved my 30 gig video iPod for almost 2 years, and aside from a periodic problem where it won't power off until I've reset it, it's worked fine. I have noticed that screen changes (for example, clicking on "Music" in the main menu and waiting for the music screen to appear) had become sluggish as I added more songs and passed the 20 GB mark, but it still worked. However, it was obvious that I would exceed the 30 GB capacity before Apple comes out with its next generation of iPod...

The review I wish I would have read!

My review will be along the lines of the sort I was looking to see as I sat on the fence about investing in a new Ipod.

Feeling claustrophobic with my 2GB Ipod Nano, I've wanted to go bigger for a long time. My Nano is great and has served me well at work and around the house, but with over 70GB worth of music on my PC and a heavy rotation of talk radio podcasts, I wanted to have it all in the palm of my hand. As a teen in the early 90's I fondly wished that someday in the future I ...

Hold everything

Finally, after holding out for years, my dream has come true: an iPod with storage capacity exceeding 100GBs. At last I can store every note of my music collection into this MP3 player with ample room for videos and photos. Although this is marketed as 160 GB, the capacity is really 148 once you activate it, so be warned.

I agree with some of the other reviews: the iPod classic is slow when responding to the click wheel. Plus, it doesn't always load the album artwork quickly. ...

The New Firmware seems to have ironed out A LOT of the bugs others have talked about!

**Before you read some of the negative reviews, please consider this was BEFORE the new firmware update 1.0.3 came out so unfortunately they had unresponsive clickwheels, itunes messing up etc. Also some people simply did NOT upgrade their firmware for whatever reason but A LOT of those problems have been fixed with the new firmware so UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE AS SOON AS YOU GET YOUR IPOD! It will make a BIG difference!**

Ok, on to the review..I just got my 80 gb ipod classic recently ...

A Cadillac-- but you may like a Chevy just as well

First, when you get this player out of the box, stop with the player and the USB cable. Leave the headphones in the box, or better yet, throw them away. Don't kid yourself about those things. The phones that come with iPods have always been junk. They don't have enough volume output, they last about 5 minutes, and they sound terrible-- and I have a slight hearing loss. Invest in a nice pair of Sony phones; it's totally worth it. I know, as expensive as the iPod 160 is, it should come with decent...

Average...Great screen and capacity though

Just upgraded from a 60GB iPod photo to the 160GB classic for extra space and video capability. Overall I am very impressed with the size (smaller than the 60GB!) and solid feel of this unit, and like the aluminum face (much less likely to scratch). The screen is very bright, and the picture clear. I am very impressed with video playback - image is good and frame rate is excellent.

I had to send my first unit back as the hard drive audibly squeaked when accessing the drive (as in so...

Avoid if you have an older computer!

If you have an older PC or Mac, avoid the iPod Classic and go for a previous generation of iPod.

The new iPod Classics are serious CPU hogs when they sync with iTunes. On my 1.8ghz iMac G5, for example, syncing my iPod Classic 160gb takes 7 minutes, even when there is nothing new to sync. Throughout that time, my CPU is over 95%, according to Activity Monitor. This is in stark contrast to syncing my other iPods (gen5.5, gen4), where syncing never uses more than 30% of the CPU.
