Nice Box With Serious Flaw Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: Compact, well built, very easy to set up. Exceptionally easy to add drives--can automatically change from single drive to mirroring to full Raid 5. Easy to upsize drives. Has 3 USB ports for external USB backup drives (convenient backup button on panel) or as print server.
Cons: * Design flaw: Unsatisfactory for remote use because it won't automatically reboot after po...

Affordable NAS Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Price. Features. Size. Ease of use.
Cons: 2TB max size limit. (Even though it supports 4x750GB drives, you can't make that a 3TB drive). The firmware hasn't been updated in forever to increase that TB limitation. The support pages are at netgear AND more details and downloads at infrant, not netgear (counter intuitive)...

Brickware -- it loses your data!!! On paper, this product looks great. Sadly, the software in the box is unstable and you risk losing ALL your data if you store it on this device. As has been reported on the infrant forums (and has happened to me), the system will run for a while, then start to act up and finally lock itself up taking all your data with it.
Ironically, the trigger for this seems to be the backup application, so just when you are in the process of updating your backups (and at your most vulnerable), t...

Great NAS Network Storage - A must have for any small network I have owned mine for 10 months now, am back here to buy another. Will actually buy a 3rd soon to gift to my parents.
Why do I love this thing? I used to use USB external hard drives to back-up data, but about 50% of the time after a few years those would die on me, and I have a lot of computers in my house and needed a lot of those to do not as much as one of these does. This thing holds 4 hard drives and runs on fully redundant raid (meaning if and when a hard drive fails, you ...

Great product, but far better before Netgear got to it Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: I've had the Infrant (pre-Netgear buyout) version of this product for about a year, and it performs exactly as described. The quality of the product is extremely high. Full SSH access is ostensibly coming in the next firmware release.
Cons: Netgear support for the product is poor (though direct support from Infrant, the original manufacturer, is reasonably good). Po...

Great Storage Solution I have had mine for a year and I purchased another one. I had one incident with the first one I purchased. I woke up one morning to a burning smell and the NAS wouldn't start up. I feared the worst, however, later I found out it was just the power supply. I switched the drives out from the damaged unit to my second one and it worked fine, without any hassle. I am trying to return the burned out one to be replaced. The Netgear tech support has some improving to do. After I got routed through Ind...

Extremely unreliable This is one of those things that you really want to love. Unfortunately, the only way you'll love this thing is if you're not that attached to your data. If you're looking for a data black hole, then this is your solution. Data cannot escape its pull.
Multiple problems with this thing, including shares that constantly drop and become unavailable, slowness, and extreme pickiness in the drives it will deign to use. I've done computer repair for over 20 years, and still can't mak...

Defective Unit Tech Level: high Ownership: less than 1 day This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Can't comment. The unit arrived defective
Cons: 50% of the time, I received the message "Kernel Panic". I was told this is likely due to a bad memory simm. I replaced it with a brand new memory simm and continued to receive the message 50% of the time. I was told that I had received a defective unit and to return the uni...

Initial Review - A Good NAS Box Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Fast setup (w/old FW), great build quality and interface (Maclike), small, easy to integrate. X-Raid works great. Excellent communications and other onboard services. Very cool running temps.
Cons: NOISY since fan/ps revision - TOO NOISY for living/quiet areas. Not as fast or as responsive as full server solution...

ReadyNAS NV+ Infrant great Tech Level: high Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: I bought the diskless Infrant NV+ model over 18 months ago. I was upset when Netgear bought them out - Infrant had excellent support and I got it a lot cheaper than you can now get it. I have designed and developed RAID systems for very large (expensive) storage systems and I have been very impressed with what Infrant produced (NOTE: Netgear did not build this!) It has been excellent w...
