Excellent Little Camera The size of the camera is comparable to a the size of a deck of cards. This is my first camera and I'm not to versed in the world of photography but this is definitely more than a point and shoot camera if you want it to be. If not, it definitely functions as one.
There are manual settings to play around with to capture the shot very similar to how you see it when you take the picture. It's a very nice camera, for a very reasonable price.

Incredible Point & Shoot I would wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone considering a point and shoot camera - this camera blows me away. The picture quality is awesome and is an excellent value for the money. I just recently upgraded to the Canon Rebel XSI SLR but I am keeping this camera for those times you don't want to drag your SLR outfit with you. Great camera, have question Lots of helpful reviews on this camera. This one replaced my sd200. Just have one problem, maybe someone can shed some light on a cure. When playback a movie there is a timer bar at the bottom of the movie which does not go away when playback on the camera or when transferring to DVD. This occupies about 1/4th of the screen. Have tried everything to get rid of it. Called the company, they said it was part of the camera, seemed surprised at the question.

Great Camera for Size, Quality and Price This camera is fantastic for those people who want to capture memories without spending a lot of money or lugging around a bulky camera bag. This fits perfectly into a moderate sized bag (or a larger one if you carry more than you need, like me).

SD-1000 is all I expected and MORE! Product came quickly from Amazon's source. Start-up time is excellent and the digital delay is minimal - these were KEY FEATURES I was looking for, as capturing my son's events and spontaneous shots was my purpose for purchase. Face recognition works best in bright/outdoor shots - less well at a distance/evening shots, but the colors, especially skin tones captured, are exellent. What a bargain! I have two friends with this camera that couldn't stop blabbing about how great it was. Meanwhile, I was shooting with my digital Rebel (much bigger, "fancier", more expensive). And downloading THEIR photos of events because mine were never as good. I always thought it was me, but I finally got one too.
Now I'm bringing a camera EVERYwhere and taking great shots.

Love it! Ooo! I love this camera! Bought it for a recent trip to China, and it performed wonderfully. I didn't read the manual before I left, but I found the functions easy to use and easy to figure out. Got awesome color, zoom, and even loved the black/white mode! Had no idea the videos record sound as well, very pleasantly surprised when I played back the videos I took.
It's a great size, very versatile in all situations, easy for others to take pictures of you. Love the screen size and the man...

I will never buy canon products again! My family has already purchased two canon cameras in the past with no problems. I purchased the Canon PowerShot SD1000 two months ago. I was taking pictures at my friends wedding and the camera just stopped working. It wasn't dropped or abused. There were no signs of any abuse on the camera. a fine point and shoot, as point-and-shoots go I've bought dozens of electronics from Amazon.com over the past 5 years, and non of them needed any warranty service nor exchange. very good camera love and dislike.this camera.almost everything works great but only one thing..when your in camera mode and theres alot of light in the background purple lines appear,but after the picture is taken go away.thats fine but when your in video mode the lines appear also,But dont go away in the finished video.Thats one problem i dislike ALOT....but other than that not bad for a point and shoot camera. just not a great video camera.hope i've been helpful

Compact and easy to take pictures After buying a digital camera last year and not being happy with it (at all), I took the plunge again and did more research. I would buy this again Take it from someone who isn't all that savvy when it comes to technology or photography when I say that this a great camera. The pictures come out great despite me not knowing much at all about ISO or pixels or macro. What I can say is that I got a 2 GB SD card so I can shoot video. I also think the battery holds the charge a long time. I used to have cameras whose batteries would crap out but this one hardly seems to need recharging. It's a good camera, get one.

Best camera ever! My dad (Richard) ordered this camera for my 13th birthday. I was going to get silver but when it went up to $300 and the black stayed $160 there wasn't really a choice. I love the black and it looks very nice. I have a 4GB card and it holds tons of video, as well as thousands of pictures. The battery has never run out. I charge it overnight and have hours and hours of battery time. My dad has a Sony cybershot and I thought this one wouldn't be as good because it was about $150 less. I was wrong!...
