Beats the competition! The best STB out there, period! It's been said before, but the reason this has so many bad reviews is from people who have firmware released prior to December 2007.
This thing is AWESOME. It plays more formats than I ever thought any one set-top box would, it plays DVD ISO's as though you inserted a disc.. menus and everything! it simply rocks.
My only wish is that it was 10/100/1000 Base T instead of just 10/100 because sometimes DVD ISO's stutter even with 100BT, though it could be improved in futur...

Like the EVA 8000 Plays videos and music very well. Wireless connection is good but suggest using ethernet if you are playing videos. I have had challenges playing YOUTUBE videos despite applying the patch and upgrading the software. Apparently this is a problem for a great many users. For a Linux media nut, this thing rocks I am writing this review because I read so many negative reviews, and I almost did not buy this item because of them. I do not use Windows for anything - so I needed a media player that could mount SMB based shares. This unit does. Works alright This device works as described, and has a lot of power but the interface for setup and operation modes is somewhat limited. The web interface is nice to have, but it is not nearly powerful enough to make up for the onscreen interface problems. The machine occasionally fails to respond to the remote, and had difficulty catalogging some items. Rebuilding the library by rescanning the media storage locations solved that problem.

With improving FW releases, this box is getting better I've owned the netgear eva8000 for 8 months now. At first I was quite upset that it didn't perform all the tasks advertised on the box, especially the TV feature. However, now that I've been a beta firmware tester, I'm seeing that this box is getting much much better. The latest firmware versions are very stable and easy to navigate.
