DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!! I have been a loyal VAIO customer all my life. However, this will be the LAST time I ever buy a vaio laptop. the only future that I love is biometric future, which sometime doesn't work if the laptop freezes, and it happens often due to WINDOWS VISTA, which is why i give up windows once for all. it doesn't get along with any applications that I download into my system. It crashes more often than cars. the battery life only last for about half hour, and you HAVE to buy a tray for the laptop, otherwise, you lap will be toasted. It burns your hands off if you touch the bottom. First, I thought I bought a defective product, then I did a onetime exchange, it is SAME. Later I went to best buy, the rep told me all SZ series has the problem of overheating and low battery life. There are no useful application, you have to spend tons to purchase all the preinstalled program in there once free trail runs out, or if you install anything, it’s most likely not compatible. And the windows vista problem, I don’t think I need to mention more. I always afraid of switching to apple, but after this, I don’t think it could be worse than this piece of garbage. The workmanship of this product is unacceptable, not for the price. The first unit I bought has a defective CD/DVD drive, and the 2nd one was even worse, the battery won’t stay, it comes loose constantly, and when that happens, the laptop will force you to restart it all over again.
Last but not least, have you ever talk to SONY support, they are the WORST! Just for my battery overheating problem, they ask me to ship the laptop to them, and I’ll be without it for up to 4 weeks. Will you do it? I want to ask SONY, what happened to your prestigious brand name?
PLEASE! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, TRUST ME, YOU’LL REGRET IT.

Not a good product and not at all good support I bought this about a year ago for $1500 including 2 years of warranty support.. This notebook looks good and is light weight but right from the start it occasionally used to hang and then suddenly some days back it started getting heated up.. I called up tech support and they gave me a shock saying my warranty doesn't cover it and it can not be repaired!!! Support sucked big time! Just to transfer my warranty information from sonystyle to sony it took about a week!

Battery Lose Up to 14% it's nice Computer but the battery is lose up to 14% if i keep the computer for more than 6 Hours Switch off after i Fully charge it, it's to bad for sony brand because i have another brand ( Toshiba, Acer & HP ) they not lose more than 1 to 2 % if i keep it Switch off more than 1 day
By the way the computer is fast but some time at start up it's not start all the programs at task bar under windows Vista

VAIO SZ is Great! This computer is the total package. Given its capabilities it is nearly a desktop replacement, and all in a 3.7 lb ultralight package. The only reason I might not call it a true desktop replacement is due to only 2 USB ports, only one optical drive, etc. However, as far as power goes, the SZ can do it all.
The only computer that compares is the brand new Dell XPS 1330. I have not used the Dell XPS 1330, but after some scrutiny I chose the VAIO. Here are the big comparison point...

Vaio This is a great computer. Very light and has everything you might need in a laptop. The only problem is the video output as it is VGA, and most of the TVs is S-Video, thus you need to buy an adaptor.

Driver Suport only for Windows Vista Excellent Notebook. But attention: if you are going to use another Operational System in this Vaio, Know that Sony only support drivers for Windows Vista. No modem driver, bluetooth driver , soundcard drivers, etc etc, for Windows XP, 2000, and so on.

Not a good battery capacity It's a good computer, for sure, but the battery.... It lasts above 1,5h when fully charged and using a pcmcia to connect to internet. The charger is huge and heavy. It also comes with lots of stuff for trial wich takes some time to get rid of them.
