Fast, easy setup, stays cool Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: As soon as UPS handed me the box, it took me less then 15 minutes to unpack the unit, install 2 500gb drives, create an NTFS partition, and begin formatting the drive. The installation & setup process is laid out VERY easily in the manual. This little unit is fast, quiet, and runs mildly warm to the touch. It's made from a very strong, durable plastic that is difficult to crack or break. I will be or...

Thecus N2050/Interesting Idea Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: None that I know of, although it's operation I do not know.
Cons: Price per construction materials.
Other Thoughts: Well... I can only comment on the price & build quality... "Expensive Plastic". Am planning to return, and will not be installing hard drives.

Could be refined. Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Cost/expandability- this is the cheapest solution for adding fast storage. eSATA is far better than USB 2.0 or firewire for hard drives. With the included eSATA card and cable, your drives function as if they are inside your computer and connected directly to the motherboard. USB 2.0 and firewire have added overhead, so the bottleneck for speed is the interface, not the drives. eSATA makes the drive the limiti...

Great quality overall!! Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I bought two of these, and put two WD 500GB drives in each (2 TB total) to use with my laptop for an upcoming trip. They work great, look great, and are quiet. I was initally disappointed to find that the units are not metal, but plastic. However, the plastic is high quality (not brittle) and they look better in person than in the pictures. The u...

Wow Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I am using this in conjunction with (2) HD 320G|WD 7K 16M SATA2 WD3200YS drives. I have this running with the SATAII card that comes with it. On a Win 2003 R2 server (2.4 Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM running a virtual server with Exchange 2003) I am getting a shadow copy backup of the root with data verification in under 7 minutes. That is over 5...

Disapointed... Tech Level: high Ownership: less than 1 day This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Good for external RAID support.
Cons: The product is bundled with a sata 150 controler! It brags about the 3Gb/s speed, but ships with an interface card that doesn't support the product potential. I haven't put this in production yet, but I'm disappointed to have to spend another $50 for a SATA II controller card.

Excellent Product! Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: It just works as expected!!! I bought this enclosure and installed two Western Digital 250GB (16MB Cache) SATA drives - plugged it in and turned it on and the lights flashed for a couple of seconds. Then I plugged it into my Shuttle PC via USB 2.0 and it was immediately recognized by Windows. I formatted the drive for NTFS via drive manager ...

N2050 Pros and Cons Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Very nice packaging and simple but informative front panel LEDs. The internal fan is quiet. Supports USB 2.0 or eSATA. Comes wwith an eSATA/SATA PCI card (note 1.5 GB/s maximum).
Cons: I purchased 3 Seagate/Maxtor L01F500 drive kits since they were on the Thecus N2050 HDD Compatibility Report as having been tes...

Awesome! Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: This unit is very sweet. I've got 2x250GB Seagate's in it and it runs as fast as the drives did when they were internal (via eSATA connection). Easy install/setup. Though the power button looks big and easily pressed, which gave me worries about accidentally killing the unit, the button on the right is a 'confirm' button. You h...

Cheap, Fast, And Noisy Tech Level: high Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Easy to setup great little device. The first few months I had this it was fairly quiet and kept pretty cool given that there are (2) 500 GB drives in it. Great speed which you should really expect from any proper ESata device.
Cons: Two of my friends also have these devices and have experienced the loudness over time. Replacing the fan seemed to help for a while but it went back...
