Great walk around lens After using the old Pentax-M 40mm pancake for a while, I decided to get this DA Limited version. 40mm on a Pentax dSLR is a great focal length for portraits and for regular walk-around use. The 1.5x multiplier of Pentax dSLRs makes the focal length work out to the equivalent of 60mm on a 35mm film camera.

Excellent quality For pentax digital body users, for standard fixed focal length lens
most popular choice would be a FA35mm f2.0 and this DA40(for this price-under $300! it's good!)
DA40 is surely better as it is small and light. The image quality was
satifactory. It is a bit dark(f2.8) but I had no problem to take picture
of my 2 year old baby in the room(night) without flash.

Sharp and super light weight I using this lens on my K100D. This lens weight so light and easy carying anywhere. I also bought the Pentax DA70 too. Both them is very good lens and pic so clear, sharp.
I strong command must buy this lens with your pentax camera.

Smallest DSLR/Lens combo on the planet! I use this on my back up camera; Pentax DL-2 (same as the DL-1). The combo is the worlds smallest DSRL/lens combo. The lens is a mini work of art. I use it for travel and when in the car (mostly). When people see the camera they are not aware (sometimes) that the lens is on it... The fact that it is a high quality and very well made lens makes this a MUST have.

Excellent lens for 35mm, too I use this lens exclusively with my 35mm film bodies, an *ist and a ZX-L. The lens works perfectly on both of them, and makes for a very compact outfit, perfect for carrying around. The DA 40mm is a sharp, excellent lens.

Good Purchase I bought this after getting the Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4. The Pentax FA was slow on autofocus, but the DA's (this lens and the kit lens) are much faster. It's a little bit wider but not by much. Most things you photograph are not 1.4 so 2.8 is still really good. The lens is rather flat with a small lens cap, which I'll probably lose at some point.
Pros: small, lightweight, fast autofocus, wide aperture, strong build
Cons: none found yet.

Pentax SMCP-DA pancake lens I got this lens due to feedbacks, and it's size. I have found it to be a very nice lens, and it really cuts down on the size of the camera. Sharpness and color meet my needs. I did not subject this to any real deep testing. I looked at my results and am pleased with it's performance.
It's speed is helpful in low light conditions. It is a set lens at 40mm which is roughly the equivelant of a 60mm in 35 film. For general photography I am happy with it. The cap is very small and screws on whic...

Great, unique lens on a budget I just purchased this lens this week, so this is something of a preliminary review...
My initial impression of this lens is very positive. It focuses faster than any other Pentax lens I've tried, including the DA* zooms with the hyper-sonic moter. The lens doesn't turn very far at all in either direction - this, along with the small-and-light construction, means that even when hunting the lens can travel all the way to infinity and back very rapidly.
It performs fairly well...
