Sweet product This was my first attempt at "electronic" training. This unit was perfect for triathlon training and am currently on pace to lower my previous time by 32 minutes. Love the ability to graph progress and establish goals.

Garmin 305 This is probably one of my best purchases ever. It was invaluable for me as I was training for the Spirit of St Louis Marathon. It did malfuntion once. I called Garmin and within two weeks, they gave me a new one. The funny thing is that my warrantly had just expired. I purchased another Garmin for my wife. In fact, I tell ALL of my running friends to purchase Garmin now. As you can see, I'm there fan and I've gotten quite a few people to get it. It's well worth the investment.

Cheap and nice device... Very nice and usefull device for a very low cost... No need to buy the 405 model if you want to use it just for trainning. Easy to use and configurate as well!!

Garmin 305 for the runner I am really liking the Garmin 305. It offers everything that I need in information regarding my runs. I do have a bit of a learning curve in terms of the small details, but otherwise it is great. I have just started back running and have entered the Baltimore Marathon so I wanted some incentive and something that would help keep me in check. It is great for Bike rides too. I bought the accessory snap on wrist strap and bike clip. It makes me the complete runner.

Great Product I purchased the Garmin 305 in January 2008 and it has been an excellent training tool. I love the fact that I can review my speed and heart rate on all previous runs. It makes tracking progress and tweaking training routines very easy.

Fantastic tool for running This is one amazing piece of equipment. It's great standalone used as a watch with monitoring your pace every step of the way and giving you feedback on anything (heart rate, distance, pace). If you are interested in tracking your pace over time, mapping out your course etc... then you can go to your PC and load the software. It's amazing to see your entire course mapped out with pacing, elevation etc.. Great price at Amazon and great equipment for runners and walkers alike!

It's a great tool to track your progress I've used the 305 for several months now and just love it. It allows me to keep track of my pace and distance, as well as monitor my heart rate. I like the desktop software as it easily shows me my totals. Being an 'average' runner, I don't use all the 'technical' functions to "improve" or change my workouts. I use it mainly for monitoring my pace during runs, and to keep track of mileage and heart rate changes in the software.
Living in Texas, it's getting harder now to run out...

Great product but battery life poor I have enjoyed working out with this watch. It has helped me get ready for three triathlons so far with more to come. I like that it can be configured for running or biking, with several screen options embedded. The heart rate monitor has worked great for me and I like to download my training into the computer.
On the flip side, the battery life is still poor. This thing needs to live on the charger between workouts - I cannot get two workouts in a row without charging the batte...

Overall, very good, but with some limitations I bought this because the device I *really* wanted was one I just couldn't justify the cost of. Overall, I've been pleased with the Garmin 305, though. I primarily use it for tracking metrics on my walks, which are training toward walking half-marathons and marathons.
In general, it does a very good job of this. The depiction of the walk on the Garmin software is pretty accurate. Some limitations I've found:

Almost perfect This is one, if not, the greatest running tool you can buy. The garming 305 has so many great features to help you improve your running, it can keep of everything so that you can improve your time on the next run. I love my Garmin, oh yes I do... I bought this because the watch from my Polar S210 had vanished on a trip (found it much later) and my Polar wireless bike computer was a useless piece of junk (sorry, forgot the model number so I can non-recommend it - stupid thing only ever got 2 of 3 of cadence, HR, or speed; sent it back to get speed fixed and it came back with both speed and cadence broken). Very good product A lot of reviews have been written on this product, so I will focus on 2 points:
Accuracy & why I chose the 305 over the 405.
1. I read some reviews stating that the general accuracy was poor: in terms of distance and speed, I found the 305 very accurate since I checked the measurement with my car. The HRM is also accurate. I have not checked for the elevation.
The satellites are found quickly (~1mn) and so far no signal loss while running.

Best purchase from Garmin yet I am not your typical runner. I mainly run to maintain my physical fitness requirements with the Air Force. This unit saved me from having to be retested.

Ambitious product, perhaps a little too much so . . . I have owned this product for six months. I was excited about its versatility because I need all of its functionality (including the bike Speed Cadence sensor) because I train for triathlons and race 5K to marathons. Saved my boyfriend's half-marathon I LOVE Garmin. I have a 205 and bought the 305 for my boyfriend as a gift before he ran his second half-marathon. I've had mine since Christmas and he's always borrowing it, but wanted the heart-rate monitoring features of the 305. Excellent I've been using mine since Christmas. Simply, excellent. It's the best tool you can buy. I can track not only my pace and distance but also my heart rate. When I finish my workouts, I upload my data to my PC to be analyzed. If you want to track not only your miles but also your courses, heart rate and pace; buy it.

Great product, Mac compatible There is not much more to say about this product. I upgraded from the original Timex GPS product. This device obtains satellites in the house and quickly. It is more reliable and accurate. And the exercise software does download to the Macintosh computer. Nice upgrade. The ergonomics are great-the wrist watch is light comfortable yet very powerful. It is nice to know if I am running an 18 or 20 minute mile.
