good but limited You could download only certain DVD (without lock). Smartdisk does provide any software to decode dvd, basically you could download bootleg DVD. Read manual from smartdisk many, many, many times

Excellent Niche Device This is a great device. But know what your buying. This item is first and foremost a Photobank. But its a highly capable photobank with all its extra functions. I originally picked this up for a song and dance at a now defunct stor for an incredible discount because they had no idea what it was. It was stored with the PMP's. Definately the wrong place. However I have found that it does an excellent job of being a photo bank, PMP, and mp3 player.I've often used it on long flights to watch movie...

No book mark capabilities If you are in and out of a car frequently and turn this device off, you get to start over again each time, without retaining song/video position or last played selection. You must go through an extensive menu system and start over. No firmware updates since 2005 and company has been sold out to Verbatim.

solid portable backup I got this for traveling so that when I filled up all my memory cards I could dounload them to the FlashTrax unit and continue shooting. I also use this unit to backup all my photos from my desktop HDD. With a CompactFlash to other flash media adaptor, it will read any of the other common Flash memory cards.
I am very happy with the unit, especially as I have one of the 9Mpixel cameras.

Good player but speakers could use some improvement Tech Level: high

Cons: Speaker bass too high, speakers a tad fragile
