Best Performance/High Cost This hard drive is quite honestly the highest performing desktop drive you can buy short of bringing a SCSI controller and drive to your desktop. Put it this way, I loaded Windows XP Pro on this drive in less than 10 minutes. Of course, that kind of performance comes at a cost far exceeding similar sized drives. SATA is fantastic, but .... The Raptor is fantastic! I never thought I would get excited about a non-Scsi harddrive, but this one changed my mind. But do yourself a favor and buy a different SATA cable than the one in the box. I don't know a single person who works with SATA drives on a regular basis who has not snapped the SATA connector off either the motherboard or the drive. It is, quite possibly, the worst connector ever put on a computer device. A number of after-market cables are out there. Some are right angle...

Excellent Drive I have had this drive installed for 5 months without any problems. The drive has cut the computer boot time by approximately 75% over the previous stock hard drive. I have had no problems with heat even in a room where the temperatures have reached 90+ degrees during the summer. The drive is silent in operation except when the drive heads move to read or write and then the sound is not that noticeable. If I had it to do over I would purchase the same drive in a heart beat. Works great - I bought a WD 74 GB Raptor SATA drive for my new machine. I use it for pretty much everything currently [I have a second machine that holds mp3s and backups for my house]. The drive is great for gaming (BF: Vietnam, UT2004), software development, and pretty much everything else I throw at it. I've had the drive for 3-4 months now. I'd certainly buy this drive again if I were building a new machine today.
