Works great! Just plug it into your PCMIA port and on my computer with Windows XP it automatically detected the device and installed the necessary drivers. I may have had to visit the company's web site to add aditional drivers to get the card to work as USB 2.0 instead of normal speed USB ports but it works great now. You also may need to use the included A/C power adapter if you plug a USB hub (like I did) or 2 high drain devices into this card.

Worked like it was supposed to. After trying and looking around at other brands, I came across this card and gave it a shot. One card I bought required another USB port for extra power, if I had another USB port I wouldn't need this one! So that did not work. This one came with a cable that can plug into the keyboard for extra power, so no need for any other USB ports. On top of that, my devices powered up and were recognized fine with this card, the extra power cord wasn't even needed like it was with the Dynex card I had bou...

Inexpensive and functional Bought this item to allow use of external DVD burner and other USB devices on an elderly laptop. Very easy to set up and worked right away. Only down side is that there are no written instructions as to how to install which might be intimidating to novice. CD provided has drivers for multiple products and was no more informative, but again, everything worked fine and performance is great. Overall ? very happy!

Work well when there is no power issue. I'm quite happy that I don't seem to have the USB2.0 installation problem posted in another review. This adapter works plug-n-play. The transfering speed shows a USB2.0 speed, about 2 mins to transfer around 900MB data.
Not quite happy about: 1. After plug in this adapter, my existing USB ports sometimes fail to be recognized as USB2.0. But since they're not too stable already (my main reason to buy this adapter) and about to die, I don't care too much.
2. It only wor...

Works great in Linux, Locks up XP Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Extremely fast in Linux Includes PS2 / USB power cable
Cons: Causes Windows XP SP2 to hang
Other Thoughts: I bought this card to connect an external hard disk to my laptop. I can already connect it with USB 1.1, but wanted a faster interface.
I dual-boot between Linux and Windows XP SP2. Under ...

Not enough power for external HDD drives Would not power my 160GB WD external drive, even when this card is powered via the PS2 port on my 3yr old Dell notebook. Is it the card? is it the notebook? I don't know, but I know this item is sitting around un-used, along with my 160GB hard drive. I'd suggest a) going with a better solution, whatever that may be and 2) return the device asap if it does work!

dont buy it Tech Level: Ownership: This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Comments: it only works with usb 1.1 device. Once i pluged in a usb 2.0 jump drive, it locks up the systems. I exchanged an item with Zonet, it does *exactly* the same thing. Talked to the Zonet Tech support, he couldn't help and admitted it may not work with all computers. I have a compaq running Win XP SP2. Cheap stuff and cheap quality! Stay away from it!

. Tech Level: Ownership:
Comments: The card works well, once the correct drivers are installed. If you use XP, expecially SP2, do not use the drivers that ship with XP or the ones provided on CD. Download the latest VIA USB drivers from VIA's website, if you received one of the cards with the VIA chipset. Before upgrading to these drivers XP will lockup frequently, and you will notice latency problems with certain USB devices, like mice.
