Worked with IPCop Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Used 2 of these on my IPCop linux firewall. I had only planned on using 1, but the onboard SiS didn't work for some reason. I had another one so I poped it in and it worked perfect. Doesn't seem to use very much CPU, because the CPU in my IPCop box barely gets used.
Cons: The main chip gets hot. I built my IPCop box to be qui...

Speed limitations... Tech Level: low Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Great specs for a copper GbE NIC. Linux support. In my experience, when net modules are packed in to a small footprint, r8169 makes the cut along with e1000. If you choose anything else you are gambling (imho). Of course that is not always the case, so read the release notes and keep a few nics on hand :) Newegg prices make it easy to do.
Cons: As was stated below, it is limited to th...

Plays well with Linux Tech Level: Ownership: This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Comments: Upgraded an older fileserver (Dual PII-400Mhz) that only supports PCI 2.1 and this works great. Worked out-of-the-box with the Linux 2.6 kernel.

Very good cheap gigabit nic Tech Level: Ownership: This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Comments: Unlike some other vendors (Trendware) EDIMAX promptly posts driver updates. This is a basic Relatek 81969S design. Linux does support it tho it is busted in stock 2.4.26 kernel, it can be be patched to work.

adequate Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: less than 1 day This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Cheap, works with Windows Server 2003.
Cons: tight fit
Other Thoughts: bought this card to get a windows home server on the network, and it worked fine once I got it installed. as others have mentioned, I had to bend the bottom of the bracket to make it seat properly.

Works great, including in Linux Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Cheap, small form-factor, works great, compatible with Linux.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Linux will use the r8169 driver: r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.2LK loaded ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:0b.0[A] -> Link [APC4] -> GSI 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 201 eth0: Identified chip type is 'RTL8169s/8110s'. et...

Doesn't Work Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: less than 1 day This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Cheap! I can throw it out.
Cons: Appears Realtec is hiding their name as people know how bad their products are. I have dealt with them in the past and they were never good. This one wouldn't work under Windows 2000 even though the drivers installed. Not really a surprise once I learned it was a Realtec.

Gets the job done Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Sure makes surfing the web faster than my old on board 100Mbps Ethernet port.
Cons: The speed of the Ethernet card is limited to the speed your hard drive can send and receive data at.
Other Thoughts: Does what is says it does.
