Comments: I wasnt going to go to an 8 port but when you can get an 8 port for the same price as a 4. Go for it. The video going thru the KVM IS a bit darker and takes some getting used to. D-Link stands for Down-Link I don't expect the switch to solve the world's problems, but I do expect it to be more functional. First thing you learn, there is only one button to toggle between PCs, and that button only cycles one way (1 to 8). So if you only have 2 to 3 PCs connected, you can't cycle backwards (i.e. if you're on PC #3, you can only get to PC #1 by cycling thru 4->8->1). You'll definitely be using the HOT KEY combo to cycle up/down between PCs.

Solid KVM I have had this item for 2 weeks now. It works well including usage with a MS optical trackball. All extra buttons on the mouse work as expected. Video quality is very good on a 21" monitor. One thing you should know: the gender of the cable ports were not the same as the existing KVM cables I already had.

Pros: Supposedly useful hot-keys and interface
Cons: After trying to understand the poorly translated manual and eventually looking up online to figure out what the manual was trying to say, I still couldn't get it to work correctly. It doesn't even catch it's own hot keys 90% of the time. Most key strokes to communicate with the KVM are missed.

Does the job I've had this swith now for ~8 months controlling between 4-6 x86 servers at any one time, it works well, I can safely boot any of the servers without worrying about whether I'm viewing that server or not. The only quirk about this KVM is that from time to time when I go to switch between servers it locks up -- which isn't that big a deal because I just push the two yellow buttons on the KVM at the same time to reset it, enter the KVM switch security password, and it continues on just fine with...

. We purchased these switches for our Dell racks. After some initial confusion in the manuals concerning the setup (i.e. renaming the ports, passwords, etc), they work pretty nice. You can either double tap the Scroll Lock button and then the left ot right arrow buttons (within 2 seconds), or manually advance the port selection. Wish there was a way to go both directions, however. The ability to daisy-chain to another switch via a dedicated daisy-chain port is a nice feature.
