Perfect for my Nokia GSM Phone! I needed a means to copy stuff to my Nokia 5100 GSM phone, which has an infrared adapter. this item fits the bill perfectly. No drivers required for Windows XP. It even comes with a 6-inch USB extension cable in case your usb ports are at the back of your PC case.
I have never had any problems with it and I have owned it for over a year (as of Dec 2005). It is only USB 1.1 compatible. but given the transfer rate of an infrared device is only 1Mbps (compared to USB 1.1's 12Mbps) it...

If you have SP2 - be wary Plugged in, new HW found, but a problem occurred (code=1) when installing - strike 1.
Tried to installed driver from CD for WinXP (dated 2001!) - after installation - system unstable, now getting code=31 from adapter.
Tried to uninstall driver or roll back - both failed.
Called Startech - they chose to not test with SP2 beta, and are only now testing.
Am returning as not compatible with SP2!

Easy to use. Just plug it in. Inexpensive. Great product. Good value. Have used this many times already and have not experienced any problems yet. I use it to download Polar heart rate monitor information. It was cheaper than buying the Polar IrDA.

Nice little IrDA I got this to allow me to download diving profiles from my UWATEC computer to my desktop and laptop.
It works well, which is more than I could say for the other ones I tried. My dive computer is very picky, and this adapter links up nicely.
Installing it was easy too.

Great for PC's without IrDA This is a great adapter for pc's that do not have IrDA ports on them. It is plug and play. All I had to do was install a driver for it to interact with my phone and I was able to send and receive files without up wires to my computer.

All you need! There are many of these on the market and this is one of the most inexpensive. There is no difference as far as I could tell being the owner of others in the past. This one was the cheapest I have bought so far and the only one I will buy in the future since it works just like the rest. I bought this to sync my Dive Computer to my computer to get the data and am most pleased :)

such a rip off I've now had two of these and both have lasted me less than a year - which is way too freakin' short for $30 + bucks! While they were still working (both just up and stopped working one day) I would usually have to attempt connecting many times before it would work.

Great for cell phone programming Bought this to load my contacts into my phone and download pictues from it. Took me about 20 minutes to get it to work. Problem was not with this IRdA but with my cell phone. Then it worked flawlessly. I loaded over 200 contacts into my phone in 3 minutes. I have transferred pictures from my phone to my computer and back with no problems.
