they ship a different modem! If you are looking for the v90 version with the speakerphone connections - DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT! Despite the fact that it is described as the v90 version, they are actually shipping the v92 version which does not have the speakerphone connections. And they charge you a fee after returning the product.

Need a modem for Linux?- This is the one! Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: This is a quality modem, well built and solid. I purchased it to use with a Linux (GNU/Linux) box, but I have used it with Windows with no problems. Unlike internal WinModems, which use the host PC's CPU and resources to emulate modem hardware (slowing down both the PC and the modem functions), this modem's modulating/demodulating is all done inside the modem itself, using its own internal hardware, co...

Does as amodem should... Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Works out of the box with Linux, great connections speed(for dialup..)no muss, no fuss... Great value for hardware modem.
Cons: UGLY blue(but that's purely subjective), is rather screechy sounding but not a deal-breaker.
Other Thoughts: Have used 3 of these in the last year for custom Linux boxes that required dialup. They're all still going.

Flawless performance I have used the TFM-560X V.92 for 3 months with no problems. Web speed test shows 48k connect. I use it about 2-3hrs a day, always connects with no dropped calls, yet. Simple driver install, had it running in 5min. Excellent performance for an external 56k hardware based modem.

Great for Ubuntu Linux Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: As a Ubuntu Linux user I find this to be the answer to my dial up needs. Although I have only had the product a few days it seems to get a strong connection unlike any of my past modems. I have not experienced any disconnects. It is easy to setup and configure if you have a serial port. If you are a laptop user and do not have a serial port I would suggest getting...

. Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Best 38 dollars I have ever spent. 56k is ALMOST BEARABLE with this little baby, got a 380ms ping from eastern usa to brazil. Nice little kill switch on the back of it.
Cons: Serial cable is on the short side long enough to go on the top of a tower case or a keyboard tray but not to the top of a desk. Speaker is highly annoying if ...

Excellent Value Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: Less expensive than other external hardware modems, yet works flawlessly with Linux (Ubuntu 7.10 used on my end). Easy to set up. Lots of flashing lights.
Cons: Well, it is external, so it will take up a little room, but not very much - the modem is still pretty small. The speaker isn't terribly clear during dial-in, but still does the...

Works in Linux Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg.com
Pros: This works perfectly in Linux, Ubuntu 7.04.
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: Ubuntu 7.04 communicated perfectly with this modem. This is the solution to the dial-up modem problem with Linux operating systems.
