Do not buy this router, get the WRT54GL Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Good web-based config utility
Cons: VERY poor wireless performance. Frequently dropped connections, vanishing SSID, inability to connect or associate to the router frequently. When this happens, you need to power cycle the router to get the wireless to start working again, and then it craps out ten minutes later. Often will not allow clien...

Buy WRT54GL instead I just wanted to add some information about this product that should be known by anyone considering purchasing this.
First of all, it is important to know that Linksys has changed the WRT54G from earlier versions of the same model. The latest version of this product model has less RAM and runs a different firmware (essentially an operating system) than previous versions of the same product. That's right; Linksys completely changed the product, but continued to use the same product...

Far-reaching hotspot, excellent support Getting the router setup in a "vanilla" configuration that works for 99% of users was very easy, and I was able to do this no problem. However, I have some complexities with how my network is setup -- I have two routers linked together, one a standard "wired" router, and the other is the Linksys WRT54G. Linksys customer support walked me through all the aspects of getting everything to work. When I wanted to lock down my wireless network extra-securely, the tech support guy...

Excellet product...great range, blazing speed This thing rocks! I took it out of the box and I noticed no documentation or installation CDs were provided for Mac OS X. I was a little worried, but decided to hook it up and see. My iBook recognized it in 5 seconds and 5 seconds later I was on the internet. I can use it all around my house and the signal is quite strong throughout.
Kudos to Linksys for this thing...excellent product.

When Linksys gets it right, it's golden... Let me start off by stating that I am an 'old-school' computer geek. I don't play dungeons and dragons or wear a pocket protector (only because of the attached stigma), but I've been in the computer thing since the Apple II came out (20+ years). My field is software engineering (big surprise) and I am a self-professed gadget freak. So my experience may not be the same as that of the average novice, but I think that if you're going wireless, you've already got some computer time under your belt. ...

AVOID! Latest "V5" versions of this product are junk, avoid at all costs!
If you can still find v1-v4 versions of this product buy them. Or get the superior WRT54GL product instead, which also works very well.
Linksys had a terrific product with the WRT54G, running a stable Linux OS, and a rabid fan-base producing alternate versions of the firmware with custome features.
Then Linksys decides to flush all that so it can produce a piece of hardware that is slightly ...

Great Gift for Parents I recently bought one of these for my parents, and it's working great. I was a little bit worried it wouldn't have enough range to cover their entire house, but it does. All of our computers were online as soon as I plugged it in (we're using a cable modem in case you're interested).
For security being the nerd I am I'd recommend simple MAC address filtering. Enter the MAC addresses of all your computers then simply configure the router (using its simple web interface) to block all ...

Easy set-up; works great! Before I bought this unit I read the reviews here on Amazon and found a few bad ones, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why?? I am no genius when it comes to technology, but set-up was simple and took less than five minutes. Make sure you read the basic instructions which tell you to put the CD in first! Do that, follow the online prompts, and you will be wireless in five or ten minutes. I always have an excellent signal and it makes sharing my broadband Internet connection with my lapt...

Was skeptical but it works GRRRRRREAT! the WRT54G for Apple! First of all, for the past few weeks I have been reading the reviews on Amazon and other websites looking for a wireless router for my Apple-- however, none of them ever seem to mention that they support Macs! So for those of you with an Apple, this is compatible. I'm running OS X 10.3.5 on my iBook.
The Linksys package does not say it supports Macs, but after doing some research online and asking the guy at the storeI took the router home and was wireless within twenty minutes! I l...
