Works out of the box, but beware of the light! Don't have much experience with this yet, just received it a couple of days ago. Plugged it in to my macbook pro running OSX 10.4.9 and it "just worked", no problems. Small, looks good, completely quiet, 5-yr warrantee. The mac reports the drive's capacity is 931.19 GB.
However, I'm writing this to warn mac users about one thing: it has a bright light, which shines both through the bottom and through the little logo-thing on the upright panel, that is on whenever the disc is working...

Roomy, Fast, Light Too Bright Since my Mac Mini came with an 80GB hard drive, I was desperate for more storage. After much research, the Seagate FreeAgent 1TB external hard drive was the best solution for me. The drive is clad in brush metal and white plastic trim, which matches the color of most Mac Desktops. Nice - External This is a nice TB for the price, at first my MacPRO did not recognize the drive. It took a couple of minutes and once I had it set up it worked fine. The transfer rate using the firewire is great. I feel the unit should have a power button on/off so the HDD is not always spinning.
The units size and weight is very nice, overall I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a secure and more importantly stable TB. I especially love the sleekness of the unit. Happy Shopping!!...

Like It Like the other reviewer said, It has a bright white light underneath the drive but it doesn't really bother me much since I put it outside from my bedroom and it will turn off by itself when idle.
The transfer rate is pretty fast, and its very quiet. I plugged it into my iMac Aluminum (Leopard) via Firewire 800, and make a 100gb file transfer from internal to external hard drive for under 30 minutes. I was hoping to be faster but I guess that is a good speed.

DO NOT BUY! NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SLEEP MODE. SUPPORT IS AWFUL! DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE!
THIS DRIVE DOES NOT RECONNECT AFTER AN iMac GOES TO SLEEP. I have contacted tech support about the problem and they have not resolved the issue. Here's their last response: "Beyond using the power setting on the Mac, if this does not resolve the issue you would need to install the drive with software on a PC to turn off it's energy saving options."

Dead On Arrival Received the drive from J&R. The power supply connection didn't work; confirmed by Seagate support. Bottom line, dead on arrival. Returned to J&R on 12/9/08. J&R is shipping a Western Digital replacement (comparable specs).

Sleek, Shiny and fast I was very pleased when I opened the box. This drive looks great next to my MacBook Pro. The LED light under the drive looks pretty cool in the dark, but I can see how some might find it distracting. I don't mind it too much since it doesn't blink. Overall, it looks sleek and futuristic.
