Very Good Picture Quality, Inferior Tuner Sensitivity I live in a "fringe" area for OTA reception in a densely wooded neighborhood 30 miles from the cities and have a rooftop antenna with a pre-amplifier system. I currently own Hitachi, Sony and Olevia TVs with built in ATSC tuners and find the Toshiba 19AV500U has the most trouble maintaining good reception from several of the HD channels. Colors Are Too Good To Be True This Tv is ,in my opinion, the best lcd in its size range. It gives you the option to control the backlight which HELPS cut down "edge lightbleed"(I try not to sweat it too much)it's found on all lcd tvs and monitors I've ever seen..
Its kind of hard to see the "lightbleed" in stores because of the great HD connections stores have,,,as well as the high lighted store rooms.

Answer to 16:10 Aspect Ratio Controversy All 19 inch HDTV's regardless of brand have a 16:10 aspect ratio.
This is because 19 inch computer monitors are 16:10 and they out number televisions by the billions.
To keep the cost down TV makers buy the same LCD panels made for computer monitors. Unless you would pay $1000 for a 19 inch set, I doubt any company will ever custom order a 16:9 panel for television manufacture.

Sound is horrible. I got this television today and as soon as I turned it on noticed how terrible it sounded. The picture was great, but I couldn't get around the tinny sound that made to tv seem loud no matter how I lowered the volume. I tried manipulating and could not find a decent setting. HUGE WARNING ON THIS TV The aspect ratio on this TV is not true 16:9, it's closer to 16:10. This means any DVDs or other video source material that is 16:9 will be stretched vertically. Some people might not even notice, but I am using this TV as a cheap video monitor for editing, and I will be sending it back. It's absolutely idiotic how little thought these companies put into consumer products.
If you don't mid the aspect issue, the picture & contrast are good, motion handling and blur are average.

Horrible Little TV Bought this for the kitchen. Hooked up Directv via HDMI and was shocked at how crappy the picture was. Dark, low contrast and the viewing angle is very limited. Played with the settings a bit but it got no better. My only other LCD is a Sony Bravia (it looks amazing).
I'm not a video freak and that hard to please, but this is one little crappy TV.

Ready to go with no adjustment needed I just received this tv on04/25/08. I had looked at others and even bought two of them thinking that they would do just fine. I had to return the others I had bought and decided on the Toshiba. This is the third Toshiba set I had bought with the last one a 26" Regza and will buy no others. I complement how fast I had received both of the last sets from Amazon.

Great little tv Just picked this up for my kitchen. Hooked it up to Directv HD and it really is a nice picture and a great looking tv. Though I bought it 5 days ago from Amazon for $334.99 it's now priced @ $349.99 @ Amazon, why?? Anyway great buy, very happy with it.

Works on my cable without a box! I ordered this TV to take advantage of the HDTV channels available over Comcast Cable in the San Francisco Bay area, without having to rent Comcast's pricey cable box. It fills the bill perfectly.

Adequate For the purpose of having an aesthetically pleasing t.v. in the kitchen - one that has to be perched on top of the refrigerator - this works just fine. The 19" screen may not be large enough for bigger kitchens but for mine it's just right. Installation and set up were super easy.
