Western Digital Has A Winner!!! With todays digital deluge of photos movies MP3s and backups it is necessary to constantly micro manage hard drives in order to keep the contents pared to the capacity of the drive. This portable external drive should keep you in business for a very long time indeed. All of the filesdrivers you need are pre-loaded on the drive itself so you dont have another CD to keep up with. Set-up is a snap just plug the drive into a vacant USB port and away you go. The case is plastic but it comes with a v...

Great Portable Hard Drive... This is my first portable hard drive and I have to admit its the way to go now for all personal information. I have two computers with pictures games videos and documents on them. Now there all on my portable drive. Freed up a lot of space on both computers. Its a plug and go tool lets you know how full your hardrive is. But with 320GB its kinda hard to fill up. Its so easy to use small and can go anywhere. I recommend WDs Passport Elite to everyone.

One of my best investments This is an excellent product. I was needing to backup al my Cds collection (over 2500 CDs) an this drive helps me in all. The speed is good, the usability incredible. The only tip that I post for all the future users of this item is "Don't use the soft included in the HDD" Just plug and play the drive and use it with the Windows explorer with copy and paste. Following this tip the use is easy and simple as ABC. I'm very happy with my new HDD.

Great Portable Passport Drive Now I have 2 portable drives a 250gb and a 320gb now and they both work really great. I love the design material and the great colors on the 320gb. I love the fact that all you need to do is plug it in to your laptop and its ready to store music movies pictures etc...The best reason is that its portable and fits anywhere.

Overheated Western Digital My Passport Elite 250 I just purchased the new My Passport Elite from Western Digital. It didn't come with any manual and the installation is confusing. It came installed with some software but you don't need to use them. There is no instruction on how to start using the hard drive. I called the tech support, they are not very helpful. You thought you can just drag and drop the files into the hard drive but no, you can only copy and paste. When I try to drag and drop, the computer blank out.
One major prob...

Ratings based on SW only, HW great! Its a great drive - hardware works well easy to use - as others have stated. brbrHowever the backup software included with the Elite model does NOT work on Vista 64 OS. I bought the Elite for the software included - if I didnt want it I could have bought the Essential model for less.brbrWhen I contacted WD for support they informed me that It is because yo sic are using Vista 64 and the bundled software is not supported on Vista 64.brbrWhen I asked where does it state this anywhere in the prod...

Not worth the price premium over the lower cost model They charge substantially more for this model than for the Western Digital WDME3200TN My Passport Essential 320GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Midnight Black).
What do you get for the extra money?
Nothing of significance or even substantive value.
A somewhat burnished case finish which adds nothing.
A drive activity diode which adds nothing.
A cheap cloth pouch which adds nothing.
Stick with the "My Essential" model th...

Great Portable Drive Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Very quiet, doesn't get to hot. Light weight and easy to carry around. I use this drive for a Mac OS X boot Maintenance Volume and portable storage. Both volumes are formated in HFS+. It works great for everything I use it for. I highly recommend this drive even if you do not use Mac OS X.
Cons: USB Cable is a bit short.
