Best Value I have seen! This is the best value I have seen so far on an external cable modem. I was renting a Samsung cable modem but once the rental fee went up I started looking. This modem will pay for itself in less than one year of rental fees! My cable company (www.suscom.net) has a list of modems they recommend. This one was one of the best values on the list and my performance did not change at all with the linksys modem. Yes the cable company is the bottleneck, not the modem!

Working great with Comcast After discovering our DSL connection had been degraded by new construction in the area it was time to try cable. We were near the limit for DSL any way but then, after some new construction increased our loop length, our DSL service was downgraded to 384k (download). A quick check of monthly service fees and it was clear cable modem service was a better deal. For us, cable service is $20 a month less and, as it turns out, the speed of cable is almost 10x faster.

Works great with AT&T Cable Works great:
1) Get your Account # ready, and registration # (last 9 digits of Acct #)
2) Turn computer off
3) If you have a router, take it out of the loop, connect directly from computer to the modem thru ethernet port
4) Connect cables
5) Turn on cable modem, let boot up
6) Turn on computer
7) Goto registration page (you probably need to call AT&T Broadband for this info)
8) You are good to go... turn off computer, insert router (if you have one)

when I saw it, I bought it. When I got this modem in I switched it with my old rental and called my cable internet provider (Comcast). I gave them the mac address and serial number right off the modem and they switched me over. No difference from my RCA modem or the 3com that I used to have. No difference except for the price, I own the Linksys and won't have to pay the rental fees anymore.

This modem has major design flaw This modem has a design flaw that causes it to lock up if the bandwidth gets too high. I am fortunate to have an ISP that provides very high bandwidth, and this modem locks up anytime the bandwidth exceeds 1.5 Mbps for more than a few minutes. I know several other people on various cable networks that have the same problem. It works fine as long as you are only playing games, surfing, etc. but if you download a lot of files or use file sharing networks, do not buy this modem!

A great cable modem, but it gets hot! I don't know why I waited two years before purchasing my own modem. I would have saved 2 years' worth of modem rental fees with Comcast Cable.This is a great modem, and replaces an RCA modem I was renting that was always going offline. I NEVER have to reset the Linksys modem (pulling the plug), and the performance seems a tad faster and more consistent. Good investment. Quit renting at this price if you can. For $10/month rental fee Cox made the decision to buy a cable modem an easy one once prices dropped below $100. I've had mine for 5 months now and noticed an immediate increase (about 10%) in both down and upstream bitrates compared to the COM21 modem it replaced. Surprisingly the cable modem swap was handled easily over the phone with Cox support.My only complaint with the modem is it tends to run warm to the touch. Works Great! What can I say? This thing does what it says it will do. After the cable installer setup my connection, it was working. The speed seems constant and after using it for about a month, it hasn't failed me yet.When I do a speed test on bandwidthplace.com, I get speeds of 1.8 megabits per second.
