Worst TV ever!!
Our 56 inch Samsung DLP TV worked fine for a year and then just become completely unreliable and shuts off every day. Found a dozen forums with complaints about Samsung DLP's-stay away from Samsung DLP's. TV keeps shutting off every couple of hours. Worst $1700 I ever spent-buy LCD's or Plasma. I bought a 42" LCD(Magnavox) 2 years ago-not one single problem-play Xbox 360 on it every day. [Read 's Complete Review for Samsung HL-S5686W 56" DLP Projection TV at Amazon.com]

Best Bang For The Buck
What a great TV. Picture is awesome on DVD and HD. Standard def doesn't look so hot, but that's got more to do with the cable source (and the fact that my GF insists on watching standard def in stretched mode).
It also works great hooked up to a computer as a monitor. video streamed over the network looks really good, and it displays its native 1280 * 720 very nicely as a windows desktop. I bought a wireless keyboard - with mouse built in- from Fry's, and now I really enjoy surfin... [Read 's Complete Review for Samsung HL-S5686W 56" DLP Projection TV at Amazon.com]

Don't waste your money
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) A TRUE POS, after 2 months, had to replace color generator, glad it was under warrenty, after 2 1/2 years of limited use, white dots, now 11, appear on screen, Samsung says this is normal due to DMD chip, BULL, it is a poorly manufactued product, they even put an insert in the owners manuel saying this is normal due to manufactoring process, SEE numerous online reviews of people... Do not buy Samsung
I purchased a Samsung television about eighteen months ago. Two weeks ago the picture became all distorted. Since my television warranty was through Circuit City I had no choice but to call a television repair person out to look at it. As soon as he walked in the door he knew what the issue was. He told me that the part would cost almost as much as the television and that his recommendation was to throw away the television and purchase another one. After doing some research I discovered that the... [Read 's Complete Review for Samsung HL-S5686W 56" DLP Projection TV at Amazon.com]

AVOID SAMSUNG DLP! Flawed- tend to break after 1 to 2 years
I purchased my nice 56" DLP well over a year ago, and it worked fine and looked great until recently when the lamp fan died. I took it apart, cleaned it, put it back together, and got about one more week out of it. When it was dead for good, Samsung's customer service could care less. They never bothered to apologize, and just wanted me to call a TV repairman so they could get off the phone. The manager, after much hassle, gave me the fan part number and a complaint address.
Now my lamp fan is on backorder from Samsung's third-party part supplier, and come to find out this is not an unusual problem. There is a national run on this item, as many are now all breaking at the same time.
Having to replace the lamp every few thousand hours is bad enough... Add in several hundred dollars for additional parts now to the cost of ownership.
Apparently many people have experienced problems with the fans, the color wheel, the board- the whole shebang, and people have been waiting for 6 weeks or more for any and all of these parts. Sometimes the color wheel will even explode into tiny pieces- and this is not cheap. Those who are not mechanically inclined have been paying for multiple TV repairman visits. If you're lucky, all of these parts will break before the warranty is out so you can start the out-of-warranty period with fresh parts.
Don't end up like me. Do some searches about Samsung DLP's and you will hear from other people. On top of this, my new Samsung DVD player is giving me trouble. The image it displays is green, and can't be fixed. I would still be playing DVD's from my Xbox 360- if my DLP TV worked.
I used to buy Samsung everything- Now I am through with Samsung forever. I am about to order a Panasonic 50" plasma for my next set. []
