Even if Nikon makes the D400 etc. I am keeping this camera.

What happens when you wanted a new at the time D2x or a D2Hs, but the $$$s just didn't make any sense. Buy the D200 instead and get some great glass instead. Unless you are a "pro" and getting paid big money, this D200 is just amazing. Had mine for 2 years and have banged it around, got it wet, hot, cold etc. this camera really just goes and goes. I am an amateur with no "Pro" pretensions but this camera is the D2x's little brother in that the chunky steel and magnesium sealed body, that is all ...

Was great; Now obsolete. WAIT -- for the D300.

The D200 was a breakthrough: A basically professional camera in an advanced amateur price range. The controls, the build, the feature set -- outstanding. "Prosumer" ("professional/consumer") through and through.

BUT -- times change quickly in digital camera world. And it doesn't pay to get overly attached to any particular DSLR. The D200 has now reached the end of its reign as the 'prosumer' Nikon of choice.

Not just for amateurs

The D200 is simply one of the best cameras Nikon has ever built. Designed for more advanced users, it does away with all but the standard programmed exposure mode and instead shoots 5 frames per second, outstanding for a 10 MP ISO 100 camera, especially at this price. Strong metal body! Uses Compact Flash cards. In many ways the D200 is a professional camera at a consumer price.
