very pleased indeed

If you like an artistic style and really want to get a wider picture, then you will certainly not be disappointed with this lens. The color and clarity of this lens is fantastic and it's a blast to use! Just be sure to practice with it first if you take shots with people in it...as it will distort.

So much fun and a must have for any non traditional photographer!

Very disappointed with this lens

I purchased this lens for my Canon 40D and have been very disappointed with the extremely soft images throughout the focal range of the lens. Yes, you can get a great wide angle shot on 1.6 factor cameras (Rebel, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D and 50D) but the shots look like they were made with a barely acceptable point and shoot camera. I had hoped for much better from Canon. I've sent it to the factory for repair/adjustment 3 times, and it's always come back the same, with a lack of definition, barely ac...

Love it!

Here's my personal pro/con list after I took this lens out to DC for a weekend.

Pros:
Extremely wide - WOW!
Lightweight. Can't believe how light this. Probably the lightest among wide angle lens.
Interesting effects can be achieved which is normally difficult in normal zoom lens.
Fast focus, and very quiet.

Cons:
My most expensive lens. For sure will take a bite out of your wallet.
Bad lens distortion wide open 10-12mm. Can be corrected slightl...

Will not work with the new Canon 5D (full frame sensor)

If you are content with the APS sized sensor in the Rebels and 20D then this is a great lens-- perhaps the best in the EF-S lineup. However, if you plan to upgrade to the 5D which will be released later this month, or another full frame sensor Canon DSLR, then this lens will not work due to the fact that the mirror for the 35mm sized sensors would impact the lens. As such no EF-S lenses will work with the 1Ds, the 5D, or their progeny.
