runs tomato like a champ
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Flashed it with Tomato in about 5 mins. Nice wireless, small and efficient (pulls 3 watts from the wall--I checked), good build quality. Fast processor (240 mhz) and decent amount of flash + ram. Really cheap w/rebate.
Cons: The stock firmware is a complete joke; if Asus were smart they'd fire the people they ...

Nothing Short Of Incredible
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: This router, combined with DD-WRT firmware, has far too many positive aspects to effectively list them all here.
However, I suppose the main pro would be how easy this router makes it flash the DD-WRT firmware in the first place. Furthermore, should something go wrong while flashing DD-WRT the WL-520gU has a backup copy of the original firmware that is restor...

Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week Pros: Great, inexpensive router that support dd-wrt firmware. Takes a few minutes to put new firmware on and then you are in business. Wireless signal strength is greatly improved over my old Linksys WRT54GC and it has way more features.
Cons: The fact that it took me so long to realize Asus made these routers!

Good router. Not great
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: It was cheap. Looks like it's well build. Can install DD-WRT or Tomato firmware. Handles torrents with no problem up to 4000 connections. No freezing, no lockups.
Cons: Bad QOS, could not get it working well ether with DD-WRT or Tomato (I have two VoIP phones ). Average Wi-FI performance. USB on this router is useless...

non functioning router
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: None
Cons: After spending an inordinate amount of time I couldn't get the ASUS router to work. EZ SETUP software either refused to work or ended up telling me it failed setting up the connection depending on what hook up I used, Ethernet or wireless. Asus didn't respond to mail. telephone or IPS second level support inquiry. Manual is o...

Outstanding router w/Tomato ND
Tech Level: high Ownership: more than 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Fast, efficient routing on the cheap strong signal quality, good range supports the ND version of Tomato (and flashing with Tomato is easy for the Asus routers) small, attractive form factor very stable
Cons: No N compatibility...but do you really need N?
Other Thoughts: These are my favorite rou...

Huge upgrade from lousy NETGEAR WGR614v4
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: less than 1 day This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: - Incredible speed. Sites come up so quickly now. No more half-loaded pages or connection drops. Just very smooth browsing. - Good range. My old router struggled to reach upstairs or in the basement. This Asus router, even at the default Xmit setting, is reaching everywhere in my house without issue. - Reliability. Yes, I've only had it for a day, b...

Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: i had a "cheap" linksys" router a dlink dir-615 and this one is the only one that i haven't had to reset 1 or 2 times a day. i can be downloading at max bandwidth and still surf the web at what seems to be full speed. thats straight out of the box not messing with the settings yet.

Great Router, Better Price
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: The low price quite possibly makes this one of the least expensive DD-WRT routers. While I was initially unsure about purchasing an Asus router to replace my aging router, I am completely glad I did. I was very familiar with Asus's history of quality motherboards and similar components, but their networking products were foreign to me. The router is attracti...

Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: DD-WRT builds v.24 RC5 and later run on this router. (That "RC" means "release candidate" - I did find a couple of bugs and rough edges, though no showstoppers.) It is the lowest-price router I could find with the 240 MHz Broadcom 5354 chipset, 16 MB RAM, and 4 MB flash - which is a great spec to support a standard DD-WRT install, and a much ...
