Bad Rap
Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Installed easy once I resolved my hardware issues. The "Driver Problem" is really overblown. If you need a patch for most mainline components, you can get it. If you cannot get it, you don't need it. All my hardware was fully supported. Think ahead, get your drivers on a USB flash drive then build. Once it was up, it has been flawless and everythi...

Very nice OS
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month Pros: Vista 64 has worked very well for me. I'm running the Asus Striker Extreme, Q6600, 4G DDR2 Kingstom RAM, 150G Raptor HDD, 750G WD HDD, eVGA 8800 Ultra, an Epson Photo R380 printer, a WD MyBook external HDD (USB), Razer Copperhead mouse, Dell 3007 monitor. No hardware issues at all.
On the software side, it's run everything I've thrown at it. It runs every game I've tr...

Installed successfully on Macbook (10.5.4)
I have 120 GB Macbook. Got this 32-bit Windows Home Premium DVD and successfully installed it on a 35 GB partition created by Boot Camp. Out of 35 GB, Windows OS took 10.5 GB of disk space. Satisfied!

Powerful, fast, and much, MUCH better than its reputation
First off, this is an OEM software. That means it is intended to be installed on a new computer build NOT upgrade an existing copy of Windows. It is possible to install it on an existing computer by formatting an existing or new hard drive, but that would violate the license for this particular incarnation of Vista. If you want to install it on an existing computer, buy a full retail copy, or an upgrade copy.
I love Vista 64-bit. It is fast, easy to use, and the best Windows to date....

Make sure you know the major differences between this 64 bit and the 32 bit versions of Vista
Runs most 32bit Vista applications. Programs like system diagnostic software and antivirus software are not all able to run on Vista 64.
Will not run any 32bit drivers. Cell phones, PDAs, webcams, network cards (wired & wireless) and others will not automatically work. If you have something that plugs in to your computer and cannot function with a generic driver, it will not work unless a specific 64bit driver is available for your device. A lot of older hardware (2years+, I know t...

Resistance is Useless - I
Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Nice user interface. A plethera of drivers are now being developed to support this platform. I found this out when I installed it.
Cons: The installation is a little buggy, and Microsoft should work this out in subsequent releases. (See other thoughts)
Other Thoughts: > Don’t install more than 2...

Runs good after overcoming all install and driver issues
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: It can utilize over 3gigs of ram, and supports directX 10.
Cons: Will not install with over 3gigs of ram, you get errors that point you to bios issues which is untrue. I have 4 gigs of ram, so what i did was i installed vista with 2gig of ram. Once install was complete i loaded all drivers then downloaded a patch from microsoft that addresses...

Response to JC on 1/6/08
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year Pros: Gamers you CAN use this!!! You get Dx10 support AND Dx9 support, and vista has support for Dx9 graphics cards.
Cons: System hog, even with latest drivers it still slows things up. Recommend at LEAST 2GB; I have 4 and it's seamless. UT3 USERS: YOU MUST INSTALL THE GAME, THEN RUN START>CONTROL PANEL>PROGRAMS>PROGRAMS AND FEATURES> AND DELETE ...

Love/Hate, but mostly like
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week Pros: I have used and become intimately familiar with every version of Windows since 2.0 (and using computers before DOS), when most NE customers were either wet-nursing or not even conceived. It's ironic to watch each subsequent version adopt more "Mac-like" features and graphic cues, but constantly miss the mark every time (and I've never owned a Mac). Vista x64 is a tolerable OS with s...

Cheaper but no Micorosoft Support
This version of Windows Vista is the OEM version, which means that it does not come with a box or a manual, just a "Quick Install" guide. This is the FULL version of Vista but another thing that it is lacking is support from Microsoft. Because this version is intended for (as the title suggests) system builders, whoever that may be, they are the people who are supposed to provide the End User Support not Microsoft. It does, however, still include Windows Update so there do not think that you wil...
