Tech Level: high Ownership: more than 1 year Pros: See other thoughts
Cons: See other thoughts
Other Thoughts: I am not sure about the "recovery" disc, but in the event that you need to reformat, you can infact use the CD to reinstall the OS. You can reinstall it as many times as you want on ONE computer. After three activiations, if a fourth one is needed, you have to call up Microsoft otherwise you will ge...

Advanced Windows users only!!!
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: (Im gonna put in a disclaimer before I type in some pros. My comments are based on an experienced windows user.) Fancy desktop, good security features, great for users who run more than 4 gigs of ram.
Cons: Very technical, (64-bit version) picky on what drivers it wants to use,---Only install 64-bit software---, uses a trucklo...

Gamers get it NOW!
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: First off, I am not an MS fanboi. I was skeptic about Vista at first. I had XP Service Pack 2 which did a fine good job. Upon the completion of my new gaming rig build (see below) I am extremely enthused to say: Vista 64-bit OEM runs FLAWLESSLY! It's fast, stable, everything you could want Vista to be. It accepted all my components without a hicc...

XP will suffice
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: It boots, it was 20 bucks cheaper than an XP disc, installaton didn't take too long, and... uh yeah
Cons: Where do i start :-/ The thing i will harp on the most is Vista's incompatiblility with anything. I mean the OS rated my video card (the PNY XLR8 8800GTS, 320bit interface with 320MB VRAM) with a 1. ...

BSOD
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: none
Cons: software is perfect...if you enjoy staring at the BSOD. i thought 64 bit was supposed to recognize more than 3 gigs of ram. when i installed the 4th stick of OCZ pc 800 it would not even boot. Then the random screens of blue starting showing up. it was so unstable i went back to XP
Other Thoughts: shiny an...

Well, it works, but it's a step backward!
This is true of all flavors of Vista. I got it on my new dual-core pavilion, which now runs slower than my old single-core Presario with WindowsXP. The reason is that all actions now have to go through a system subprocess, which REALLY slows things down. The games I play now run at half-speed compared even to much slower processors - so now they're unplayable. Also, there are a many pieces of software (like my Palm Sync app) that simply won't run under vista. So if you can avoid it, don't u...

MCSE says AVIOD!!
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week Pros: The install DVD makes a great Frisbee!! Or you could take it to the local shotgun range, throw it in the air and yell PULL :-))
Cons: How much time you have?? - If you want it to run like XP, you'll need a quad 10GHz Turion X2 system with 12-terabytes of memory if you want to do anything other than play Solitare. Came pre-installed on my Acer Laptop and will ...

windows vista 64
Tech Level: high Ownership: more than 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: It looks nice. raid driver is supported. Directx10 and some new features.
Cons: plenty of crashes. lacks of support for 64 bit apps, driver and hardware.
Other Thoughts: It's slower than my old windows xp pro 32. Take my advice, wait for it to mature or use your old windows xp pro. It runs much faster and less b...

Vista means DEATH!
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Easy to carry disk. Attractive artwork on DVD. Disk can double as coaster.
Cons: I have a pretty tough machine. CoreDuo Quad Q6600 Stepping, 4GB Geil 4-4-4-12 DDR2800, XfX Geforce 88GTX, 2X 10K Raptors, Xfi Fatality, MSI P6N SLI, Thermaltake 750W 2x Sony DVDrw. So this pc is pretty tough. I load this shingle and 4 hours later it is done. Or ...

Unless you have 4GB RAM
Tech Level: average Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Can't think of one.
Cons: Takes too much RAM to run it smoothly. 64 bit version doesn't run 32 bit program stable. Too much useless processes that I can't kill. Can't play any game with 2GB RAM without the games crashing to desktop. DX10 is overrated. Takes too much hard drive to install and eats it so fast.
Ot...
