Works just like it should
I've got an old Ti4600 with VGA and DVI out. This adapter allows me to have dual-monitor at home with ease; the adapter currently connects my secondary screen, a Dell 17" LCD.
Might I also recommend UltraMon, a dual-monitor program which performs a whole host of useful dual-monitor features (i.e. individual task bars, widescreen wallpapers, etc.)

Does the job...
I used this little device on my Dell to setup dual monitors. I have the Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE that has one VGA and one DVI connector on it. This adapter allowed me to setup a 2nd VGA monitor using the DVI output.

works and seems solid
I have a ATSC settop box, w/DVI and an old 17" analog LCD panel. I set the ATSC settop for 720p (1080i doesn't work for obvious reasons), connected the VGA with this converter to the DVI and it works fine. I just had to set the settop to 4:3 aspect ratio, sides are cut off of course.
The thumb screws and the connector seem solid overall.

Works fine with a MAC G4 laptop.
I bought this as a replacement for a DVI <==> VGA cable to attach my Apple MAC G4 laptop with overhead projectors (the original, Apple-supplied cable developed a short, which is a known problem with this Apple product). This item worked perfectly, and I can now use my laptop with overhead projectors again (1280x1024, 32 bit color). I suspect it will last longer than the supplied Apple converter, as there is no cable to bend (and thus cause shorts in the contained wiring).

I bought this converter to use it on my xbox and lcd tv/monitor (tv does not have a vga input) It works as intended, I'm able to play xbox. Reason why I'm not using component cables is that I want to up convert dvds on the HD DVD xbox player. Gotta say dvds look pretty close to HD however (downside) some how I may be loosing HD quality when playing HD games.. Maybe is due to the convertion from vga to dvi.. I don't know.. never the less.. Product works just fine and it has a really nice price.

Dvi to Vga Adapter
My computer's video card supports dual monitors. One port is Vga and the other is Dvi. All my monitors are Vga; I bought this adapter to plug a second Vga monitor into the Dvi port. It works great and I've had no problems with it for the past year.

Amazon recommended this product. However, it was not needed because the Amazon description of the original video adapter did not indicate this product was included and was not needed.
Amazon made and incorrect recommendation.
Used Amazon's return label and Amazon charge me $5.02 because they said I choose to reuren instead of Amazon making a mistake.
Very poor customer service from Amazon on this purchase.

beware with mini-dvi converters from Apple
This is an ok product to convert 29pin DVI to VGA. Be aware that if you already have an Apple MiniDisplayPort to DVI converter, or a Mini-dvi to DVI converter, both only feature a 24pin DVI (Macbook Pro, ibook, G4 Powerbook etc that use any of the mini-dvi, mini ports). Basically the analog pins C1-C4 are not carried to the plug of the apple converter making it impossible to use it for any VGA adapter such as this one.
