Totally satisfied
Im very happy with this machine. It was easy to set up and has a great picture from both the DVD and the VCR. It plays just about all DVD formats except DVD-RAM and it does a great job with my tapes too. I didnt need one with a tuner so Im cool withit not having one. The box tells you it doesnt have one even before you open it up. For the price it is well worth it and to have a Sony. It does have a clockit just has to be set manually and it is very easy to set it. If what you want is a good mach...

a simple player
Expect a simple player that plays both DVD and VCR. Nothing fancy, and looks rather cheap for Sony product. If you want to view both VCR and DVD you have to downgrade the cable to RCA three lines. No S-Video or any other high performance cable can be used. Basically cannot fully capture the benefit of owning a DVD player.

I am pleased
That folks will review a product at 1 star because there's no tuner when the product listing says, "TUNERLESS"... anyway I got this for my kids' room. Needed an inexpensive DVD/VCR combo. I set it up last night, and watched a dvd with them, and found that it's quality is above what I expected for the price. The only complaint I have is the image quality when inactive (the sony screen when a dvd isn't playing). It flickers, but not noticeable when it is in play mode. It also could be the TV,...

Very disapointing
We bought this as a replacement for a worn out older dvd/vcr player . At first everything was fine. We've now had it for about 4 months and the vcr heads just up and crapped out! Nothing changed, we didn't do anything. Just went to put in a movie and the tracking seemed off. Then it just got worse and worse. We cleaned the heads several times to no avail. Tried EVERYTHING! DVD player works fine still. But it doesn't do us any good since we still have a ton of tapes. I think it's a POC and even a...

overall i very good product.....
I brought this for my Mommy-in-law as a replacement of her broken Philips vcrdvd combo. Only issue I have was the lack of a co-ax hookup she still has an old TV that has the one co-ax hookup. I had to fork out another forty dollars for a RF modulator.

Great choice if lack of a tuner is not an issue
In the right situation this DVDVCR combo is an excellent choice. While it is true that this unit does not have a tuner and can only record if fed a signal from another source this information is clearly stated on the box and it should not be necessaryeven to open the box to learn its limitations. I planned to use this unit in a room that does not get cable at all and where the over-the-air signal is weak enough that I would probably never use it for recording anyway so the lack of the tuner is n...

Excellent Picture Quality
I purchased this item for my home which is very easy to hook up directly from your television. When I turned on the Sony DVDVCR Combo I was just amazed with how incredibly clear the television picture turned out. I was as though I was looking at an HD TVwhich I dont have nor do I have digital cable. I paid around $108.00 with tax and I beleive that is well worth the price. But the down fall is that it does not have a clock on the front to let you know the time of day.

Fine product , reasonably priced
I got this to replace my old dvd vcr combo. I wanted the multi read dvd player for my home made dvd's. As an added bonus it also reads jpeg disks. As to all the negative reviews, I read all of them found them to be without merit. Every complaint was that the vcr had no tuner. I have a satellite box and if I wish to tape programs I use the satellite to do so. However I have no need for this as I have a dvr with my satellite service. To those who objected to the absense of a tuner, why wou...

basic but reliable performer
this unit replaced a broken 6-year old jvc in the kids' room (you can imagine how tragic a breakdown in entertainment is to kids). thus far (2 months) the sony unit has performed well. read times on dvd's is faster than the old jvc, the vhs is relatively noiseless, and picture quality is good overall. this unit does not have a cable tuner - so you'll have to switch the tv back and forth between sources! this also means that if your tv only has a cable jack / coaxial input you'll be out o...

Decent DVD player.
DVD players can be so unstable, hit and miss, unreliable and short-lived that the machine may be worth the price for that feature alone. It's played every disc and doesn't even stick. There are disappointments, however. This Sony unit's remote control will not operate my Sony TV, which was purchased two years ago. More aggravating is the jumpy picture on all of my commercial VHS tapes when I play them with the Sony. (Note that S-video out and component video out capabilities apply only to t...
