great unit-great recorder but must get the right type of dvd disc
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) great unit-great recorder-had unit for lest then a year no trouble yet but must get the right brand of blank dvds to record to(see the manual for recommended disc)the only issue i had with the manual was it was xerox copy of the manual not he real manual from the fac..the unit i bought came from a refurbish vendor..overall i'm very happy i bought this unit...so far

Great Product
I found the manual a bit confusing until I got used to the way it was organized. I had to call customer service once to figure out how to get the correct channel on the DVD recorder. I did find the same information in the manual cleaverly disgised, later.
I've waited a while to do this review as I wanted to make sure I understood and tried all the features before making comments.
I really like this unit. I do VCR tapes and DVD recording. It does both very well. I'd say this is an excelle...

Will It Only Record The Program You're Watching?
The only question I have is never answered clearly. Will this unit record one program while you're watching something else on the tv, or is it going to record the same thing that's on the screen? Only my old VCRs, which have all died except for one (and it's about to), would do this. Everything I've looked at in the past few years, even with its own tuner, records whatever is on the tv screen. That makes the unit totally useless to me, as I'm one of four people in the house and we all watch ...

Worse piece of electronics ever owned
When hooked up the television cable, the picture quality became poor. After recording, watching it, the quality worse. Very difficult to program. Am replacing it ASAP.

Great Options , not always compatable
This recorder did everything we wanted it to do. Mainly burning our old home movies, off our Sony Handycam, from 8mm to DVD. Our only problem was that the format is not compatable with our HP computer. So we are hoping to find some software that will allow us more editing capabilities, like adding music to some of the DVDs. It would have been nice if the company had either included some software or recomended something.
