Kingston Data Traveler
This is the second time I purchased a Kingston Data Traveler, my first is an 8Gb. Works flawlessly. When I saw the 16 Gb for this amazing price had to have. I now have enough flash drive memory to carry most of my work and personal files so updates are a breeze. I've also used to transfer files from a failing drive to a good one with success. It was a somewhat slow process but when in field and it fails you use what you have and it worked great. I've used Kingston memory modules over the y...

16 GB DataTraveler is good, but....
The 16 GB version of the Kingston DataTraveler is fine, but with one caveat. That is, it is much faster if the file system is converted to NTFS. All of the USB thumb drives (and most external hard drives I have found) come formatted with FAT32. I know that this is for compatibility with older versions of Windows (and MACs?), but if you are using a Windows system with at least Win XP on it, the drive is much faster if its file system is converted to NTFS. Other than this issue, the drive seem...

Well Made, Good Value, But a Little Slow...
This is a nicely made flash drive with plenty of room for lots of big files. And, it is a good value for the money compared to other 16 GB flash drives. Also, I like the retractable USB connector - it slides in and out easily via a little tab on the side. And, once extracted, a little indent clicks in so that the connector will not be forced into the drive when the drive is inserted into a USB port.
On the negative side, it doesn't have an LED indicating read/write access. This is...

keeps on ticking
I washed this little item and freaked out because I had just transfered all my family photos over because I was afraid of my computer crashing. It had sat in the little space between the door and the washer for two washes. I dried it out (for 2 days) and tried it. It didn't even loose one picture.

It works.
This device has worked from the begining. The connector ejection system doesn't feel good but funcntionally there is nothing to commplain about. It is a solid generic thumb drive.

Fast and easy to use
I just popped the flash drive into my USB port and was able to save and access files within seconds. I don't need security features so for me this flash drive was a great solution to backing up and storing media files.

Drive bit the dust after only a month
I bought this drive and was delighted with the price, but it died after only a month. I have 2 other SanDisk Cruzer flash drives and have had no problems with those.

bad reputation
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: .
Cons: .
Other Thoughts: After ordering this, I found on mailing lists that Kingston sells different parts under the same model number. Someone who bought large quantities over a few months found they did not even format to the same size. He had problems with some parts, not others. The problems are usually early fai...

terrible design
Pros: Fast Cons: there is no lock when the drive is in the extended position so if the USB slot offers any resistance it slides back in. You have to keep pushing the slider mechanism to get it inserted into any USB slot properly. Also it has no cover so although the tip is protected from damage when it is retracted, it still gets dirty.
