Somewhat useable despite the size
After reading the other reviews, I expected that this thing would be too fat to use. I was pleasantly surprised that it's still somewhat functional, if not extremely handy to have around. I would not suggest trying to use it for anything you would have to press hard on though. It's too fat to have a solid enough grip to keep you from slipping and cutting yourself to ribbons for heavy duty work. Really Big Really Great
Well lucky me, I received one for Christmas-early. I am a Swiss Army enthusiast, but frankly when I heard about this knife, I too thought "interesting but absurd". Its one of those things that you see in a catalog, and decide how less expensive things can fit the bill, ie a separate LED flashlight, pocket knife, and wrist watch-without the bulk and for less $$$. Inconvenient to carry my foot.
This knife is perfectly convenient to carry provided you're accustomed to carrying a handbag. Not only is it useful (but then I'm a Mom, a jeweler, an artist and a computer geek) but it makes an outstanding defense weapon in the bottom of a leather bag.

A fun addition for collectors...
This knife is more of a novelty for the collector then a knife to carry. That being said it always gets much attention when presented. If you are looking for a good "user" get the Swiss Champ XLT, it has all the good features without the bulk. I have both and would never think of "using" the XVAT in a real life situation. One other note, the scales of this knife are a semi-transparent textured plastic. Not the most attractive of their scales.

THE ULTAMATE KNIFE
This knife is really the ultamate knife. I collect SAK's since I was 8. THIS IS BY FAR THE LARGEST ONE EVER!!! The only problem is it is so big I CAN EVEN GRIP IT FULLY. U are never gona use it!!!!!! Fantastic, High Quality Knife - Huge, But Still Pocketable
I bought this XAVT knife from Amazon and received it just this week. I had previously owned the XLT and people always commented on the size of that knife, but the XAVT blows it away.

Awesome and useful
I love it ! It's nice and big but not so big as to be useless. Some people keep it as a collectable. I actually find it to be useful around the house. However, I am selective with some of the things I use it for. I do have a belief of using something that is collectible (within reason). I have a collectible car and I drive it. It has so many cool features as advertised. Expensive ? Yes. Are you getting a top of the line Swiss Army knife/multitool ? YES.

Outrageous Gift - Not for casually keeping in your pocket
This is an excellent gift for the person who has everything. I have bought two (both as gifts). The knife is twice the width of the swisschamp - the prior "big boy". It has a flashlight and barometer, thermometer and alarm clock (batteries included). The multiple torx and screwdrivers and two (count 'em) magnifying glasses demonstrate that this knife is more for "indoor" use.
