Office guru has it all wrong...
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: Great new user interface.
Cons: Takes a little getting used to the changes, but it's really not that bad.
Other Thoughts: Office guru is obviously not really an Office guru. When you save files, the default is in the new format which is not compatible with the previous versions of Office. If you want it to be thoug...

Attractive new Office
Office 2007 has a new look that takes getting used to. On balance, I like the extended menus and their easier access to many formatting commands. These menus sit on a fat ribbon which can be turned off. Once you find where they have hidden the commands (click Office logo, Word Options) all goes well.
However, with the new wide-format laptop screens, vertical space is at a premium - so why do all the Office toolbars and menus have to sit at the top? It would be nice to unlock t...

Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: New, easy to use interface for beginners, best Office buy for the money.
Cons: As expected, the new GUI takes some getting used to; menu bar's now a series of tabs with large icons...But it's not as bad as one would think.
Not completely practical as an upgrade, 03 will suffice anyone's needs.

THIS PRODUCT IS FANTASTIC!!!
In the beginning I didnt quite know what to think about the new program. After I downloaded the program I was totally amazed as the design and operation of the program. It is much easier to use than the older programs. Not only that you can downloadthe program on three computers. You will not be sorry!

Endless Frustration
Excel 2007 will open my older documents into something called "compatability mode". This will work for a few minutes and then lock up requiring [ctrl][alt][delete] to get out. After that, my files are corrupted. When Excel 2007 opens again, it will give the option to try to repair which will also lock up requiring [ctrl][alt][delete] again.
Bottom line: I am not be able to work with my older files without converting them to the 2007 format.
When converting to the 2...

frustrating and quirky
One can't help but wonder who is writing the glowing reviews of this 'new and improved'Office. I am only using Word and can't speak of the other programs. But Word! Yes, some of the new features are handy, yes it looks nice enough, but if you're just a home user and not a techno geek, beware. Word is convinced that it knows what your document should look like, and your personal work habits and preferences are secondary. People go nuts looking for ways to change this or that - read the reviews on...

Did not work out of the box
I bought this item from Amazon.com because it was the cheapest way to upgrade my new Vista-based laptop, which included a trial version of Office Home and Student edition. Well, the product key that came in the Microsoft packaging was invalid. I tried numerous different attempts, as the Microsoft help web sites advised, to key in the product key. I even tried to uninstall the pre-installed trial version of Office, then install from the included CD to no avail. Finally, a call to the noticeab...

Avoid it if you can
I will make this as short as I can. I am a long time user (~10yrs) of MS Office, many versions of both Word and Excel. When I started having some compatibility issues with my old version, I decided to upgrade. My advice to you is, at all costs, avoid upgrading if you can. If you can choose a different product (non-Office), do it.
In Word especially, all the old interfaces have been completely redone, from the menus available right to the way help is (dis)organized. Many of the old usa...

The license covers three home machines
The "Home and Student" license is for non-commercial use only. The product requires activation, which includes sending machine identification information to Microsoft.
The good news is that the license allows installation on up to three machines and (over time) you can transfer the license to new systems.
From the license: "You may install one copy of the software on three licensed devices in your household for use by people who reside there. ... During activation, the...

Once you get used to it, you'll love Microsoft Office 07
This student edition of Microsoft Office 07 comes with four programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Unless you specifically have a need for another Microsoft Office program, this will be more than enough for the average Office user. You've got all the essentials: a word processor (Word), a spreadsheet (Excel), a slide show creator (PowerPoint), and even a nice program to put all your notes (OneNote). Home and Student Office 07 version gives you the basic programs at a cheaper price th...
