Beautiful Remote, Fully Functional Operation
I just received the brand new PRESTIGO 8015/37 remote on January 31, and it is an all around beautiful to look at remote. I have 4 devices programmed, and it performs all functions available on the originals. I had researched the Logitech Harmony remotes (680), and I do like their computer USB method of programming and updating over the Philips set up wizard. Some owners of Harmony have reported that the software is slow and lethargic.

Not horrible, but far from great.
Coming from a Logitech Harmony 1000 (whose touchscreen eventually drove us nuts), I had high hopes that the SRU8015 would be a more straightforward but worthy replacement. In some ways it is, in others, it is not. Granted, it's considerably cheaper than the Harmony, but it's frustrating that it comes so very close to being excellent, and yet falls so far short.
Firstly, unlike the brochure and Philips' website indicates, the backlight on the unit I received doesn't turn itself on by...

Philips prestigo sr 8015universal remote control
I bought this remote control,and I am very disapointed.When I try to work with it The screan fades and gets blank.I am a busy working guy I do not have time to deal with returning process.Therefore I sucrifice my money and left with a defected remote control

Not recommended unless you only have a TV - and then why would you?
Anyone fawning over this remote has either not used a lot of remotes, or they wrote this while in the "honeymoon stage". This remote is one of the worst on the market in terms of its user interface and inability to handle program edits. Make one mistake and you have to start over. Want to adjust that Activity macro? Sorry. Can't do it. How about the nifty (unadjustable) half-second backlight timeout when you hit a button. Sure, you can turn the scroll wheel and the backlight stays on fr the expe...

works but full of glitches.
When I first got this, I was really impressed. After returning one, I discovered that the first my not have been defective but had more glitches then the replacement. The unit reboots often, forgets keys, and the backlight does not stay lit when you change settings. From what I can see, there is no way to update the firmware on this unit. Easy - Peasy
I was a little concerned, at first, about programming my devices but it was easy as pie. I'm not super tech saavy and I haven't gone so far as to program every function for each device, yet. For now, if I need to set up a recording on one of my vcr's, for example, I just use it's original remote but it is so nice to have one device that handles all my devices for playback etc. Eventually, I'll have it programmed to handle every function. Well Worth it!
Highs: Price, Design and easy of use, macro type functionality (activities is the term that is used by Philips), programming was a snap once you get use to working the remote.
Cons: Wanted to have the ability to move some of the major functions/commands to the top of the list on the menu screen

DON'T BUY THIS VERY COOL REMOTE
This remote dose not work on every converter box...and if it dose you still might have problems.
I got my package got the remote ......looked cool....worked great with my Sony tv...worked terrible with my DishPro (Dish Network Satellite box)
Sent an email to World Wide Distributors the company that sold it to me ...They said "you can't return it if you opened the case it came in" ...how stupid is that.
The Chatted with Phillips...they said well that can happen we are still updatin...

Doesn't really work -- NO softkeys!
The most important thing I need to add to the reviews here is that this remote has no ability to program keys. It DOES control multiple devices well, but once you've designed a key sequence (an "activity" or a "macro"), there's no way to assign that sequence to an unused key.
Philips says you can "do anything" with a single key...but it's not really true, because before you hit that single key you have to scroll through all your devices and macros to find just the one you want.
