wouldn't have bought if I had researched properly
This machine can do it all. Functions extremely well. Very pleased at the wireless function - it's wonderful to print from the laptop instead of doing everything from the desktop.
CONS: Canon is taking advantage of us with their ink cartridges. Had a Canon previously - fairly late model. They have reduced the size of the ink cartridges from 14 cc to 9 cc. I've always been a fan of Canon products. I've used their printers for years, including the i850, i4200 (still my favorite printer!) and the multifunction MP530 (my favorite multifunction), MX830 and the MX850. I bought the MX860 for the wireless functionality. I find this is the first Canon product I would not recommend. The wireless printing speed is incredibly slow, either from Mac or PC. Very Good all in one wireless Printer Priced right.
This printer does every job you ask it too,but is not outstanding at any. Installation on Mac Pro Leopard Operating system was fairly painless. Took about 20 minutes after unpacking. After following installation instructions on enclosed CD and receiving a message that installation was complete; printer did not show up on computer. A toll free call to Canon tech support was answered immediately with no wait. They solved the problem in less then five minutes.

Good printer but printing cost is too high
The following summarizes my opinions about the printer after using the printer for about one month. I use it to replace my HP Officejet 7410 AIO wireless printer which kept rebooting by itself after using it for 3-4 years.
Pros:

Great value, Canon quality, highly recommended.
Purchased the MX860 to replace the older Canon F50 All-in-one which had finally died after many years of high use. Have only used it to copy and print docs so far (haven't used the fax or for high res pics yet). My assumption based on the older F50 is that high-res photo's will be stunning as the MX860 has far better specs in that area and I was always happy with the F50's photo quality prints. Good AIO with quality output and one unforgivable flaw!
Pros: Acceptable printing speed. Good and fast draft prints and copies. Quiet operation. Text quality is nearly laser sharp. Very good photo quality. Duplex printing and copying. Software that works well, unlike HP.
Cons: Can NOT produce proper COPY of documents with margins less than 0.25 inches. Borderless copy doesn't help. Can't print from USB keys. Poorly designed USB slot barely fits average USB key. No document preview on copy and scan on the LCD like HP has.
