Best Player I've Seen...Great Picture!
I have tried a few Portables...the Philips 10" player, the Toshiba SD-P2700, and a 5" Panasonic player over the last few years, and this is the player I have finally decided to keep. It has the best viewing angle I have ever seen, which has alway been a big complaint for me....(great for watching with 2 people). Used it on my last vacation and it was perfect....just the right size for portability, and a great picture for a 9" screen. This really is an amazing screen, with great clarity and colo...

Good DVD player... Not so good JPEG viewer
Updated 1/18/06. Owned for 6 weeks.
Highlights:
- Picture quality is outstanding. 800x480 resolution really shines. Viewing angle is excellent. You can see the picture on the screen clearly from any angle as advertised.
- Sound quality is good for the size of the speakers but with Toshiba DVD players lot of people are complaining about lack of volume. With my computers running in the background with fan noise, I had to turn up to volume to 75% to hear the sound comf...

This is an exceptional player. Easy to use. Many great features. Lightweight. Matches my experience of other Toshiba products. I recommend it.

This skips and has error codes on most DVDs - disappointed
I got a refurbished model. It skips and freezes on the movies I have tried - more so when plugged in than on batter power.
Also, you can't make it take up the whole screen - on older DVDs like the Hunt for Red October it only displays on a third of the screen right down the middle. You can zoom in but that cuts off the picture and the resolution looks bad.
The picture is very very good - but the huge silver case and speakers surrounding it and the black bars cause it ...

Exceptional player with one fatal flaw
I didn't see this fact in any of the other reviews of this player. I have had it for about 24 hours. My discovery is that there is no way to resume playing a disc after the power is turned off. In other words, if you watch a dvd and decide you want to stop for awhile, the player has no function which allows you to resume from the point at which you stopped--if you've turned the power off.
Believe me, I tried everything. The bookmark feature looked promising until I read the information ...

Fine player
The display is incredible. The animated movies that the kids mostly watch come across the screen with remarkable detail.
On the down side: With the speakers on the side of the screen (not below), finding a case/car mounting system that would accomodate its width was difficult. I did finally find one at Bestbuy that only took slight modifications. As other have said, this player does not resume play after returning power to unit. So turning off the car and then returning, you sta...

Good LCD display, otherwise it sucks
I have no complaints about the quality of the LCD screen, probably the best available on a portable player. Believe it or not, I prefer watching DVDs on this device than on my CRT TV set.
The problem here is that everything else about this DVD player is really bad.
It's really thick and heavy. Barely portable. The smallest Sony Vaio notebook weighs the same as this DVD monstrosity and is a lot thinner. Although the LCD on this is actually better for watching DVDs.

While it was working it was excellent
I had this DVD player for a few months. We really got our use out of it. It has great features, options, picture, sound (in comparrison with other units), etc. I had no complaints about it. However, I started noticing after about a month that the unit would turn itself on while it was plugged in charging the battery, even with the unit closed. The only way to get it to stop was to unplug it completely and take the battery off. Which was fine if you were done charging it.... Then, after ab...
