Very pleased with first HD Plasma purchase
After a week of looking in the local stores and then browsing on-line, I still wasn't sure what to buy. It was easy to pick the size, the exact features and specs was a tougher process. I settled on a 50 inch, 720p I saw in a store and set it as the base model. For a lower price, I picked this Hitachi model that gave me the higher 1080p resolution.
Setup was fairly easy with the help of my wife. We used the stand instead of wall mounting. A little tricky to install the stand ...

Very good for the price
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 day to 1 week This user purchased this item from Newegg Pros: OK, lets get this straight, it is NOT 1080p, I knew that when I bought it and I'm still glad I bought it. Here is the deal with this TV. 1080i = 1920x1080 1080p = 1920x1080 What does that mean to you? Interlaced video can appear to have a slight flicker. It still has the same detail that the progressive screen has, it just draws the screen ...

Buyer beware
Tech Level: high Ownership: less than 1 day Pros: Good picture, but not 1080p.
Cons: This set is not 1080p.
Other Thoughts: Be very careful and do your research before purchasing. This set is not 1080p. Do enough research and you will find this to be the case. It is 1080i.

I still think it's a 1080p monitor
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year Pros: I honestly believe this monitor is capable of 1080p. It is important to mention though that this is only capable through one of the HDMI ports. Honestly I'm not sure if HD over the air broadcasts are capable of 1080p or not, but this TV will not be able to display them, according to the manual. As with my 360, using the component cables, I was only able to display 720p or 1080i... had to upgrade to ...

1080p, but not on TV
Tech Level: high Ownership: less than 1 day Pros: The previous reviewer claimed the set to be 1080i. This is not true. The issue is that the tuner in the set only supports 1080i. This is a problem with OTA / Cable in general, and not really a fault of Hitachi. If you run an HDMI source (Blu-ray for example), the screen will do 1920x1080, making it a full 1080p.
Cons: Color contrast could be better. It is a tad misleading about ...

1080i not 1080p
Tech Level: high Ownership: less than 1 day Pros: This is a 1080i TV according to Hitachi technical support. I spoke with them via telephone this morning 5/15/08.
Cons: This is not a 1080p TV as listed.
Other Thoughts: Hitachi uses deceptive advertising on the specs for their TVs. “Three 1080p compatible HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) ports…” means it will play 1080p no...

OkeeDokee
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month Pros: Very good picture. Accurate colors. Numerous advanced settings available in the menu. Bright enough (on max picture power) to watch in a fairly sunlit room. Handles motion exceptionally well. Better than anything else I've seen at this size for less than $2K. Anti-reflective screen seems to work well. Speakers are adequate for anyone who doesn't have or need an external solution a...

1920 x 1080 resolution = 1080p
Tech Level: high Ownership: 1 month to 1 year Pros: Great price and tons of features any, yes any non-CRT panel with 1920 x 1080 resolution, is by definition, a 1080p display. 1080i, in this case, implies that the source alone is interlaced(i). Flat panels are inherently progressive(p), in order to play an interlaced signal, flat panels deinterlace the signal itself, into a progressive signal, which is displayed. If this panel, with the list...

Learn the TRUTH
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: more than 1 year Pros: This TV does what Hitachi and Newegg Claim it can. IT IS 1080P. Period.
Cons: Broadcast Television is scrambling to keep up with modern technology. Apparently some of the viewers are too. Hi-Definition broadcasting providers, for example, Satellite, and some Cable and Phone/IP providers only broadcast in 1080i or 720p. I have used them all. (I also sell satellite...

Very nice, understand the specs.
Tech Level: somewhat high Ownership: 1 week to 1 month Pros: Superb picture, Reel60 3:2 pulldown correction, power stand, PIP.
Cons: Not 1080p, although this is more of a spec issue than anything else. Not the best contrast, Hitachi doesn't include contrast in the specs.
Other Thoughts: The resolution of this unit has been debated since it was introduced, and Hitachi no longer claims that this is a 1080p TV...
