Affordable and built solid!
This is an excellent device.
You have to buy your own disks but not a big deal with today's low prices. I bought 2 Seagate 500GB drives for $160 total. Once 1TB drives drop in price by next year, I will upgrade this device again.
The device is full featured and loaded with tons of extras. Plus, what I really love, the GUI is in the AJAX style. This means no waiting for the interface to refresh. The GUI is nice, clean and a pleasure to use!

Solid NAS Solution
For an entry level NAS, the NSA-220 seems to be one of the better choices. It is one of the cheaper NAS devices in the "bring your own disk" (BYOD) category. The main selling feature for me was the Gigabit NIC, Web GUI, FTP and Torrent Services, and the expandability compared to Non-BYOD models.

Just OK, but there's not much better out there yet
UPDATE: My NSA-220 required service. The experience was very frustrating. This first interaction with ZyXEL support has left me with a VERY unfavorable impression. Troubleshooting took over a month of back-and-forth emails with long delays between ZyXEL's responses, and the RMA process requires the customer to pay for return shipping of the defective unit -- and it's heavy. Small footprint.
Relatively lightweight.
Cons: 2TB Max capacity.
Other Thoughts: I bought two 1.5TB hard drives thinking they might work in Raid0. Granted it doesn't say anywhere that it will but it was worth a shot. No, the volume size was reported incorrectly. Same problem when trying JBOD. It works in Raid1 which is cool...

Be Aware..

Pros: I relied on this for it's raid backup, with two "green power" WD 750 hard drives in parallel.
Also took advantage of the print server feature.
Oh, and it's quite good-looking..
Cons: Print server would often require me to connect to the drive and enter my username/password before the printer would respond (that was "normal," and I got used to it.)...

Great NAS & Print Server For Home Use
Pros: Works as advertised, great price, ease of installation, quiet and sleeps when inactive and wakes up without any timeouts on the computer. Great copy function from cards or disks plugged into the USB port. I was able to populate the disks relatively quickly instead of copying everything over the network.

Pros: Nice clean web interface. Dont have to install anything to use it. Access using run \\nsa220, or shows up in network like any share. Ultra quiet unlike readynas. Torrent program works good. Pros: Verry simple to setup.
Loads of features as a matter of fact many more than one can expect for the price. I love the Broadcatching feature.
With a firmware update it will now take two 1000GB drives for a total of 2tb. I like the fact the raid 1 I am using realy keeps me safe (I pulled one drive and my media was in tact added it back and is rebuit its self....
