Reasonable Price, Good little Laptop
Tech Level: somewhat high
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: 17" Scrren, almost full size keyboard, numberic keypad on the side. Light weight, comfortable to use for longer periods of time.
Cons: The 'shiny' plastic scratches and scuffs REAL easy. Speaker volume is poor when playing DVDs.

Does the job well

Pros: Great looking, excellent battery life. We Bought 6 for work and downgraded them to XP Pro with no problems. All the needed drivers were at Toshiba's site and easy to find. Its a real nice laptop at a real nice price.
Cons: None so far.

Pros: Slick looking, light enough, has firmness to it (but see Cons). Seems fast enough. Nice display--no dead pixels. I love the 17" because I get the separated keypad like on a desktop. Very easy setup. Easy to use the exterior monitor functions.

Great Laptop For The Price
I bought my laptop from another online vendor w/ 5 easy payments, so mine was a little more expensive than Amazon.com.
I love the color, It's not lightning fast, but quick enough, the keyboard is great for typing assignments, the number keys to the right are great, that is the main reason I chose a 17 inch laptop, plenty of hard drive space, and 3 GB is fine, but can be upgraded to 4. This is a very quiet laptop, the best I've ever owned.

Other Thoughts: You said that this notebook had an AMD processor causing heat problems - sorry this notebook has an Intel Dual Core.
Another note Gateway is not a top of the line manufacturer of notebooks. If you ever worked in a repair shop you would realize that they are one of the poorest notebooks on the market.

The good the bad and the ugly
I have had this laptop about three weeks now. First the good:
1. Amazon did a great job getting it to me fast and at a great price
2. Toshiba does a great job at the way they package this laptop. There customization and user manual is top rate
3. Toshiba service has been great to work with
4. Great ten key keyboard
5. I like have a manual switch to turn off the wireless card..cool feature
6. Nothing is in the back of the laptop making all connections very easy...

Good Buy
Bought it today from Office Depot. Great screen, sharp image, whisper quite and quick. Best laptop I ever owned too. Set up and getting started was a breeze. Not sure how it will perform at a later date, but have always forund Toshiba products to be high quality.
