Toshiba Satellite L305-S5921
A great all-around machine at a budget price. Doesn't feel like a budget machine. Pros:
- Plenty fast 2 Ghz core duo, 2 GB RAM
- Intel graphics chipset (GMA 4500) which is 2x the speed of earlier laptop video chips from Intel, DirectX10, 720p native - snappy with Vista Aero
- nice keyboard, good crisp key action, well laid out
- glorious screen, bright (even under battery power) and super crisp
- very useful multimedia controls: stop/start/FF work with Media player & DVD...

Toshiba are not a good way to go

Pros: Toshiba's are cheap.
Cons: On ALL of the newer models you may be getting ready to plug it in to charge and suddenly your DC harness (inside the computer) snaps, and you are simply out of luck, Toshiba does not cover this under Manufacturer even tho ALL of the L305, L355, A205 have the issue, cheap plastics, and poorly made systems.

Read all information, Better than a netbook

Pros: Reasonable price for basic laptop. Recommeded to a friend who was replacing a 4 year old laptop. Memory and HD are mre than adiquate for basic laptop user. Upgrade the memory and its fine for a business user as well.
Cons: Bloatware. Uninstalled almost all of it. Only hogs your HD space. Be sure to get a good defrag program and defrag regularly. O&O is my choice.

Cons: came DOA , newegg wants to fix it and send it back to me. a new replacement would have been the right thing to do since I bought a new laptop not a defective one that needed repaired

Pros: For the price paid it works as well as I expected. A 3.5 on Vista performance due to graphics. Unit has a closing latch unlike HP/Compaq that depend on spring tension. Far less bloatware than HP and Acer requiring removal.
Cons: Lid is pretty flimsy and will not protect the display if weight is applied.
