An absolutely essential item, that will last you decades
I had my mother's slightly less powerful (than this artisan version) 5 quart mixer, which I used for over a decade till I received the cobalt blue artisan as a wedding gift 15 months ago. To be honest I had always wanted a cobalt blue one to match my kitchen -- my mother's mixer, after over 20 years of regular use (and being shipped twice across the country!), still worked perfectly.
I use my mixer a few times a week for all types of applications -- making bread, muffins, cookies, ...

Takes a licking and keeps on mixing
I purchased an Artisan mixer (citron) 2 years ago and can't believe how much I've used it. Yes, it looks good sitting on the counter, but it has earned the right to take up valuable space since I turn it on almost every day. I own a KA Artisan Series 5-Qt. Stand Mixer in "Blue Willow." I am a casual baker and am relatively new in the kitchen and prior to making this purchase, I did quite a bit of research on stand mixers. I found that the questions you have to ask yourself prior to making this purchase are:

Great Mixer with The Mixer Bible
I've had a KA stand mixer in one form or another for about 25 years. I've owned an Artisan for about 2 years now. I like to bake, especially bread, and the mixer never lets me down. I bake for just my wife and me, and the Artisan is perfect for us. If I was baking triple batches of cookies or bread recipes with 8 cups of flour, I'd want to move up to the 6 quart pro version.

A Great Investment
There is a reason why professionals prefer to use Kitchenaid Stand Mixers. They are simply the best. This is not only an appliance that will last a lifetime, it is a beautiful addition to any kitchen decor. I loved mine so much I bought one for my sister as a housewarming gift.
The mixer is fun and easy to use. I love making cookies and cakes in it, and pizza dough takes about 2 minutes to make with the dough hook. I don't recommend making pie crusts or biscuits in it though, some things just...

I've always had a KitchenAid mixer - my mother passed a PINK one down to me...that might tell you how old it is....so, when I saw the beautiful colors offered in this mixer, I just had to buy one. Greatest investment in my kitchen.
My fiance decided to get me this KitchenAid mixer for Christmas this year. It arrived early, so he's been letting me make Christmas goodies with it. I have never made chewier, moist cookies! My recipe has always been praised, but this machine transformed them!
I also made French bread from scratch! Who knew I'd ever make bread? It's delicious and couldn't have been easier with this machine.
Other things I've already made (it's only been a week!) is moist, very well...
