I judge legos based on two factors. Appearance and Playability
This thing gets a 5 stars in for appearance. Its massive, and it looks good. It looks like a Star Destroyer, not a cut away of a Star Destroyer or just a portion of the star destoyer. This is a very impressive LEGO set; very detailed!
I just purchased this set from Target today (31-year-old AFOL). I purchased this set because of the unique parts selection, number of minifigs and because it's the Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer!
This was a set I wanted to get after purchasing Jabba's Sail Barge. It looked very interesting and included minifigs (which the larger 10030 Ultimate Collector's Series model did not include). While not as large or detailed as the 10030 model, this model definitely has a lot of playability...

One Sweet Lego - But a Little Fragile
I have a love-hate relationship with huge Lego sets. I love their features and complexity, but I hate their price. This set is one of the more expensive Lego sets, but it is loaded with features. On the other hand, it is a little fragile, even for a Lego. On the plus side, anyone having this set will be the envy of their friends, if they love Star Wars Legos.
Lego recommends this set for children ages 9 to 14. The main reason is that the set contains 1,366 pieces of various sizes...

A must for Star Wars and Lego fans.
Durability: Fun: Educational: This set is incredible. So much detail that a collector would love it and huge amounts of mindless fun for everyone. This set requires lots of time ( took me 6 hours but I'm a slow builder ) and is well worth some frustartion you go through. Great but suceptible to frequent damage
This was a great Lego set. My 6 year old earned it as a reading award in our family. He built it with the help of his dad. He's an expert Lego builder, but this one took a lot of time and seemed more difficult than most b/c it is fragile. The main objection I have with it still is that he cannot really play with it as he does his other Lego sets, even comparably sized sets with a similar number of pieces, b/c it constantly is falling apart. 1366 pieces of fun!!!
Durability: Fun: Educational: We just bought this at a TRU store. My 10 year son is in the process of building it this Memorial weekend. He's relatively new to Legos and this is his second large set to build. He built the Millenium Falcon last Christmas. This Star Destroyer looks much easier to build than the Falcon. While you might think this is excessively expensive, when you factor in design and the task of doing it, I think this is a great deal. My son, who is 7, got this for christmas and sat down and worked out almost the whole thing in 6 hours of intense concentration. This Set is Awesome.
IM not Sandra Kubik im her son. this set is not very fragile unless you build it wrong. the bottom will not fall out. the only problem is the wall that covers the ship. it sometimes pops off but is easily reconnected. Overall if you have 100 dollars this set is a must buy.
