My thoughts
The microphone performs admirably on my Olympus DM-1 (I'm thinking of getting a DS-2000 eventually), but one thing that needs to be known about this microphone is that it HAS to be plugged in for long-term usage.
The batteries on my DM-1 provided a little more than an hour's worth of energy before this microphone sucked them dry. Other than that, the product works just fine.

great audio quality
I use this microphone with my Olympus DM-10 digital voice recorder. The entire package fits easily in a shirt or jacket pocket. As a radio/tv broadcast journalist, this compact microphone allows me to record spontaneous interviews in broadcast quality. This is a superb microphone and worth every penny.

works great
I use this with my digital recorder whenever I have a traffic stop start to go bad.Its clear as a bell and when the defendant takes me to court and starts to lie that I was a rude officer,I whip out my recorded conversation for the judge and catch the defendant in a lie.Great microphone.

Excellent Microphone
This is a great microphone. My new laptop did not have a microphone and I was looking for something that I can just plug into it and walk around recording or talking on skype. This one is great...does not creat echo, cuts out the background noice etc. Highly recommended.

Not usable with macbook
Not Sony's fault but contrary to the word i got from the computer store, the apple Mac-book does NOT support plug in mics like this one that don't supply their own power. So disregard the 1 star rating as far as quality goes:just didn't want this possibly useful info to get lost among the ratings. I ended up finding that info in Mac help after i couldn't get it to work. So, i have no opinion of the quality of the mic, I just know it doesn't work with the Mac-Book.

maybe better with a Sony?
Adds volume but overall I would say the sound quality is very similar or not as good without this device. I use it with my Olympus WS-300m. Maybe it would work better with a Sony. It is also more prone to have interferance and it will make a loud noise when it picks up on something. I don't use it just in case it makes that noise I don't want it to ruin my recording.

This microphone is something that my staff of photographers has liked because with a small digital recorder is help them keep things portable and together. They also have like the quality in the sound that it produces.

Poor excuse for a microphone
Did not perform nearly as well as the built-in mic in my tape Sony recorder. Did a number of comparison tests and using the plug in mic actually reduced the sensitivity of the recording. It was like putting a sock over the built -in mic. Waste of money if you have a good recorder.

ok product
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) i recently bought this product, shippments is pretty fast. the quality of the product is fair. with my sony 1g recorder it boost the quality by maybe 1.5 time better that usual. i use it in my class, to record my professor. but i was expecting a little more.
