easy to use, but gas edgers are better
This edger is quite light so you may have to sometimnes push down on the unit to go edge through thick turf. Mud and dirt also gets stuck easily in between the edging blade and the plastic fender. Besides these problems its very easy to use, and is not as noisy as a gas edger. There is a height adjustment for the trenching level of the blade but that's useless.

Does what string trimmers can't do
I used to own a Ryobi gas-powered string trimmer. When I was able to start it, it could trim around beds and even sort of edge walks. When I couldn't start it anymore, I bought the Edge Hog a couple of years ago. The electric start is far more reliable than a gas engine. While the Edge Hog can't trim next to trees or the house, of course, it clears a straight line next to walks with ease and can trench a line around garden beds. It does this much faster than a string trimmer and the result is mu...

Dream Edger!
Last year, I needed this! This year, I finally made the purchase and have been completely satisfied with how this edger has helped make my gardening projects a breeze. I haven't used this as a trencher yet, but can see the possibilities in the future for lighting installation, trenching and fence installation.
The pull-up edge guide converts the edger to a landscape trencher. The three-position blade depth adjustment is really important to help you control the cut. There is a door you...

Good product but. disappoints
This is a powerful easy to use edger. It's much less hassle to use than a string trimmer and far less expensive and quieter than a gas edger. However, it has a few shortcomings. The wheels are on one side, the blade on the other. Therefore, it won't work close to obstacles since you can't reverse direction. The edge guide is small and loses track easily and there's only a general idea if you're on track. This is okay for straight edges but if your walkway curves, watch out, or you'll be ch...

Okay for small lawns
This lightweight edger worked well out of the box, but there is no way to tell on this page that it was built for users much shorter than I am. At 6'5" it's not very comfortable to work with. I would probably have purchased a more expensive gasoline model if our yard was much larger. It's a push and a shove to get it through grass that has grown out beyond its borders. Work on grass when it's dry. It has an edge guide that's somewhat useless since it doesn't go down very much past the base of th...

Wow!! What an edger!!!
The Edge Hog works great. Got ours a few days ago, and went to work. We have zoisa in our front yard. Really thick grass with tough roots. Over 10 years it had grown out over our driveway and sidewalk, over 6 inches of overgrowth in some places. We had manually done some of the edging, thinking that the Edge Hog would be good for maintaining it after we had done the tough stuff. But we gave it a try on the fresh stuff and it was absolutely great. We did find that when doing this, since yo...

Works Well for Light Edging
I gave this four stars because it works extremely well for edging on a regular basis. It does not, however, work well on heavy overgrowth.
Our house had not been edged for several years when we moved in. I bought this product for several reasons. I like electric as it is cleaner and quieter than gas. It is also lighter and does not need the engine work that all gas powered products need on occasion.
When I tried to use it to do the heavily overgrown front sidewalk, I found ...

Makes lawn maintenance easier!
This edger is a major time and muscle saver over the manual ones I've used, such as the Rittenhouse edging and trenching tool (ASIN: B0002ZQGZQ). I still use the manual Rittenhouse to start new edging projects, but this electric edger is a dream come true for ongoing maintenance. My yard needs re-edging about every 6 weeks, so the time and energy I've saved since getting it is significant.
Assembling this out of the box is a two minute job. It's solidly constructed and it's obvious ...

I thought I heard angels singing....
I, too, started with the traditional gas edger. All I was thinking at the time was the ease of use (ie: no cord to hassle with). What I hadn't counted on was how heavy and akward that would make the task of edging. I have some spinal injuries so I thought that might have contributed to my difficulties. In fact, when I had finished edging with my gas edger the first time I came inside and loudly proclaimed to my husband that from now on, edging was his task! It's not that I didn't want to he...
